Frey is a nunchaku/staff user and good at close/mid range combat, about normal range for a speed/parry focused protagonist of a video game. Saleh would be really useful in the backrow, considering Selphie uses a similar weapon and would probably kill them all for putting her in a backrow position.

As for magic, he uses... Sun magic and Wind magic ala Suikoden Runes. There are few dedicated mages in the game, since magic is fairly common place and equipped.
