Frankly, it isn't even mandatory to participate in any of the groups. It all depends on whether your character would respect the strategists enough to follow their plan. And even then, there's no guarantee things will go as planned.

But yeah, fffff. Now I'm just rambling. Point is, if Jay wants to fly solo, that's cool. Yuan won't stick to groups too much either and things'll probably be hectic on the battlefield anyway.
