Varies from individual to individual. Someone like Pao-Lin, for instance, would be more adept at picking it up due to her experience with technology and maybe playing flight simulation video games. The Tyr-Fighters themselves are very responsive, but also extremely fast. So while it's possible they could learn to get the hang of it in the six hours leading to it, via simulation training, they'll be doing so at their own peril. After all, you don't get extra lives in space.

Someone without those advantages, however, would have a hard time even adjusting to the simulators. So it really comes down to the individual character's experiences and how quick of learners they are.
