So, question as I consider my options! I can't think of a good way to ask it, though, so I'll go by example (which is also poorly worded, whoops, but I hope you'll get what I'm saying).
Suppose Fenimore was suddenly afraid of, say, cat lovers. Would she be frightened by people based on who she thought were cat lovers or based on who are cat lovers? Like, say Person A actually loves cats and Person B hates them with a passion, whereas Fenimore thinks that Person A doesn't care for them but she thinks Person B is a stealth cat lady/gentleman. Would she be frightened of Person A (who is a cat lover) or Person B (who she incorrectly thinks is a cat lover)? And if it's Person B (the one she thinks is a cat lover) she fears, then if a cat wandered by and A started baby talking it while B tried to kick it, would she suddenly feel much calmer about Person B while starting to flip out about Person A being near her with their cat-lover germs?
