How's My Driving?

This is a crit post for both the community and game and for your characters. If you have something you'd like to see us improve upon with the game, PLEASE TELL US HERE! Anon commenting is on, but if anything gets really nasty there will be warnings and thread-freezing. This isn't required but everyone is encouraged to take advantage of the advice of your fellow players!

Just some pointers: no taking cheap shots, no dragging personal issues into things and for the love of all that is wise and great, please double check your replies and comments before posting them. Sometimes a change in phrasing can make all the difference between a helpful tone and a condescending one.

ALSO ALSO: We'd like to clarify that HMD means HMD- which means it's okay to have both good and bad crit. Some people have expressed concerns about posting good/bad crit when a character already has bad/good crit posted. We'd like to encourage you guys to do it anyway! You can drive well or badly, and even good drivers make mistakes. So give it a try \o

An open letter to the players, particularly those who expressed concerns and suggestions during the previous HMD:

First of all, I would like to apologize for not responding to those suggestions, one way or another, at the time. It has been a complicated year up to that point and the timing was not good for any of us, I think (not placing any blame, just stating how situational it was) so it was difficult for us to gather our thoughts on the matter. There has been a lot of critique recently, calm and angry, anon or logged-in, and the sudden influx of what sort of felt like (due to, again, situational feelings at the time) "you're doing it wrong" was really overwhelming, so it was hard to sort out what we wanted to say and how to say it.

That said-

Luceti has gone through a lot of changes in recent years as far as administration goes, and as admins change, most times so too does the story, how things are run, and the mood of any given game. We have done what we could to keep the "heart" of what Luceti is intact, and we understand that there have been bumps along the way! These things happen. I'm not the big, overarching plot-planner that Eggy was, I will admit to that. Much of what was planned for Luceti rested on her shoulders back then, and when I took over as head mod, I knew coming in that I didn't have a firm grasp on what was going to happen without her. In the end though, I wanted to keep things going despite the fact that I lacked her long-term plans. Masa and Emily have stepped up marvelously to help me develop new ways to keep Luceti interesting and ever-changing. We honestly are trying! But things have changed, and whether or not they have changed and will continue to change for the better is something that every player gets to decide for themselves.

We tend to get mixed messages as far as feedback goes; that is the nature of any game. Some people want X, some people want Y. We can't please everyone, and trying to do so is pretty much futile. So instead we try to please as many people as possible, and offer an "out" to those who aren't happy. This is why most of the experiments are optional. This is why we've tried to create new ways to get out of the enclosure and see more of the world. This is why we have tried to offer as much information as we can when we're asked for more details about things, and this is why we try to give some freedom to people when we lack the know-how to provide those answers. It's tough, and it takes time. So if we're slow with some things, if plots don't happen, or if information doesn't get across right, please be patient with us. Chances are we're either working on something else or are just trying to enjoy the hobby in the limited time we have, just like everyone else. If we don't get back to you in a decent amount of time, ask again! It's okay, we won't get mad. And a lot of our time goes into the game, whether you see it or not. This applies to all the mods. Much of what we do is very much behind the scenes.

One of the more contentious and difficult concerns for us to resolve has been the issue of village-wide experiments. Opinions often split radically on how village-wide experiments should be conducted, and when they are run, two things tend to happen. 1) If it's made mandatory, players become concerned about the consequences for their characters, and seek an "out' that isn't just kidnapping. However, providing one nullifies the "village-wide" nature of the experiment to begin with. If anyone has suggestions on how to make both things true at once - truly village-wide, while retaining a sensible out - we'd be happy to hear ideas. 2) Sometimes, player involvement in events like these tends to be fairly low, or at least less than we envisioned. If you guys don't take and run with the ideas we set forth, there unfortunately isn't much more that we can do! It's hard to gauge what you guys would like the most, sometimes, which admittedly is part of the nature of the game. But we really need feedback on things like this in order to improve the whole process, the ideas behind events like this, etc. One idea is to start running votes or polls ahead of large events to see what should be optional and what shouldn't. If you've got any suggestions at all for this particular point, please, throw them at us. Talk to each other about it, and let us know. Anything! We'd really love feedback on this point.

Now, to respond to some specifics:

• The kidnappings, in some form, will always be a part of Luceti. They have been around from the beginning, and they serve as a convenient hiatus excuse as well as a method of implementing player plots and mini-events for people. We will not be removing it. Please stop asking. However, the possibility of characters evading a kidnapping? It's in the works. It will someday be possible. So if that tickles your fancy, keep an eye out.
  
  
• We get that there isn't much time for plotting and widespread events these days. There just never seems to be enough time between apps, experiments, and drafts. Therefore we have considered changing the application cycle to every three months instead of two. Luceti is well beyond the point of needing apps to be open and allow in fresh meat; instead we need a cycle for sustainability. Doing this would free up an extra month for whatever we need to have run - a plot event, more smaller events, a draft or two, anything that the game requires.
  
  
• We have read each and every comment in the last thread (most more than once, actually) and have taken suggestions into consideration. Widescale plotty business takes time to implement, and we obviously cannot use every single idea offered to us, but certain things are being considered. Thank you to everyone who contributed! It means a lot that you took that much time to offer up your opinions in such detail, even if at the time we weren't feeling very grateful |D;

Hopefully this clears a few things up. Obviously we can't respond to each and every comment directly, but as I've said, we've read them all, and we understand there are some concerns amongst players. We're working on making this place better for everyone, just give us some time.

My only crit is... pretty OOC-based, actually--you tend to stress about about things too much. I wish I knew how to help with that, or what to suggest, but from what I've noticed you stress out to the point where it doesn't seem like you're having fun. Just so you know, the thread with Rin is my current favorite ongoing thread, and my favorite thread outside of Lupin's CR. I'm canon blind, but he's absolutely fantastic! It's why I poked him with Yugo twice when I had him, and why I've determined that I think I'll continue poking at him where it applies.

Also--your Scorpius is delightfully polite and off putting at the same time. He seems like the kind of guy you could have intelligent discussion over tea with, but there is something decidedly off...and it's perfect!

I was really curious to see how he'd fall into place in Luceti, and so far he looks like he's doing very well. :)
