Have some boring updates!

Hi everyone! There's no plot or exciting details here this time around. Just administrative stuff, new and old. So it may be worth your time to read through here, but you can do so from any position on your seat. Not just the edge.

Starting out, we want to bid Cata farewell. She did excellent work in keeping the timeline and weather information up to date, as well as her other duties. We're sorry to lose her, but hope she'll have fun RPing elsewhere. Thanks for everything!

  1. First on the agenda is our call for people to help us with apps. Now, one problem we have in Luceti is that we open apps for one week every two months, but get a flood of nearly 100 apps in that time. While we do our best to go through them quickly, it takes us time to get through some canons we don't know well. So rather than hire a new mod to help us with this, we'd like to ask you guys to lend your help. We've set up a post where you can give us your name and method of contact and then list the canons you're familiar with. If one of us mods come on to an app we're not too sure about, we'll have this list to look at and give one of you a shout. If you know your canons well and are good at being critical, then please consider signing up!

  2. Emily linked this previously, but let me direct you towards our Player Event Sign-Up Post once again. In order to facilitate things between us and the players in scheduling player plots, we're going to make this a must for people to use. Now it's important to note that this doesn't apply to everything! A birthday party or something like that isn't really something you need to schedule with us. But planning to attack some characters? Pull off a big festival? Something else? Talk to us and we'll get you slotted on that post.

  3. As Akai announced earlier, we're now allowing you to link to threads/posts on the [community profile] trainingwings community. This is our special comm where you can test characters you might want to app in a Luceti setting. This was also accompanied by a Test Drive meme that can also be used for that. You can expect these to be a regular thing when Application Interests open. In general, we'll be looking for the usual ten pieces of dialog (or ten comments from your character) when you link something.

  4. Next, I've altered the Mission Suggestions post to facilitate the creation of new missions. Now you can still suggest normal recurring missions as before, but the creation of unique missions takes a lot of work for us to set up. Especially having them consistently enough to keep people happy. So to take a little work off us, you guys can help make these missions down to every detail. The idea is simple. You fill out a form that will look like the typical mission descriptions seen on the [personal profile] rpmanager journal. We'll then reply to you with what works, what doesn't work, and suggestions on how to alter it. After all, not every mission idea will work due to logistical reasons, practicality, or with the setting of the mostly unseen world outside of Luceti.

Once we've figured out how the mission should look and have something final to post, we'll ask you to write up the mission introduction. This is the action-based setup for the mission that also includes additional information to play with. Check out the Missions Tag on the Luceti Logs comm for an idea of what we'll be asking. In this way, you'll get to create the whole setup of the mission, with a little guidance and suggestions on our part to make it workable and fit the setting of the game. Sound fun? It should! Because it's less work for us. And that's fun. For us.

  5. We've had some questions about our rules on canon updating and re-apping characters in regards to keeping a character's memories. This is something that isn't discussed in depth in the rules and has been generally handled case-by-case. This is generally how it works:
    • You can't keep memories if you go to an earlier canon point. If your character is apped from Chapter 14 of Amazing Canon and you re-app later at Chapter 12, they won't remember Luceti. This basically is a common sense logistic thing. If you app them from an earlier canon point, how can they remember experiences that haven't happened to them yet?

We do allow reasonable retcons for canon characters and original characters. With canon characters, this is an inevitable reality of playing from the universe created by someone else. If the creator introduces a change to your character in some way, you are free to incorporate it as you will. You can do this right away by talking to your castmates and CR on how to handle this change. Otherwise, you can re-app in a canon update type method. This depends on the nature of the change. You can talk to us if you're not sure or need help sorting out how to deal with it.

For original characters, sometimes you may come upon a realization that an idea you had isn't quite working the way it should. We understand this and are willing to help work with you on this. We do allow retcons and canon updates, so long as it doesn't drastically alter the character into an entirely different person. If you need to tweak the background or personality, you can do so as long as it does not change things in-game in a big way. (For instance, if your character is supposed to be allergic to spinach, but you've never had this come up ICly, you could change or remove this trait.) Depending on how significant this is, we may give you permission to edit your app for your own uses or we may suggest you re-app if the differences are enough to need to be re-evaluated. Again, talk to us and we'll help you figure out what the best approach is.

And that's it! I hope you all enjoyed the plot we did last week, because I know we did. Apps open on the first, so happy apping!

QUESTION. Posts from trainingwings are allowed as samples, but what if you did a thread on fourth wall day? Does that count?

Ah, that makes sense. Okay!

This may come off as something that should be obvious, but it doesn't hurt to be sure.

Does [community profile] trainingwings stuff count for 1st person or 3rd? Or can we use TW to substitute for either samples?

Gotcha. Thanks.

Regarding canon points, my concern has been about what memories can be kept from an update, which then turns into a backdate. For clarification:

Someone apps their character from Point A in their series, and plays them from Luceti for several months or more. Later on, they decide to canon update to Point B, but decide after some time they don't like it as much as they thought, and want to go back to Point A.

Do they reset entirely if this happens (someone has told me that this is the case), or are they allowed to keep the Luceti memories they had before the update to Point B?

All right. Thank you for clearing that up.

RE: the player event sign-up post -- would we have to check in with a mod even before posting something like a "is there anyone who would be interested in this idea/what does everyone else think about this idea" post on [community profile] lucetiooc? Or is the sign-up post basically the end step in finalizing an event/plot?

Gauging interest is fine. But once you start scheduling, you'll want to talk to us. Of course, if you're planning something that potentially effects the whole village, you should probably drop us a line then too.

So yeah, the sign-up is sort of the final step. But it can be the first step too.

TEST DRIVE MEME

[personal profile] herotypical 2012-06-28 09:48 am (UTC)(link)
guys! i was really excited to see the turn-out for this thing!

and this seems like a great opportunity for me to ask about it without cluttering the comms with a new post -- how did this work for everyone? did you enjoy it? what could be done to improve the timing or set-up? should it be CLOSER to apps? should it go up just as reserves open? how can we best spread word to non-luceti players? are there important game-related links that should go in the top post for those non-luceti players?

Just wanted to drop by with my two cents on this. Personally, I think it worked very well. There was a lot of backdating going on, I noticed, as people happily posted a new comment to the meme a week after it went up. That's why I'd suggest it going up early rather than late, but not too early. I'd say around the time reserves open, yeah.

I can't remember when App This Plz usually has its rounds, but maybe it can be advertised in there?

I really think the test drive meme was a good idea! I think you should link at least the FAQ and the Nitpicker's Guide in the top post, so there's an easy reference to what non-Luceti players can expect from the setting.
markofthewise: (I like where this is going)

Maybe next time around, we'll link it from the Reserves page. Seems like the most direct way of getting people there.
