Droid Sabotage - Begins September 21st (fyi: we pushed the date up by one!)

New mission will come later this month! We're going to try out a shorter sign-up time to see if it raises more volunteers.

If you're new here, then this is a mission post. You can find available missions at rpmanager. You are welcome to subscribe or track the journal, but this is not required, as updates will be posted on this journal. For those of you who don't know about missions, the links below should help you out. I suggest you start with the Mission FAQ first!

The log is going up for this current mission at the same time. Check out the details inside for a special chance for one character to play ‘hero’ and save the day. However playing hero doesn’t come cheap, either. There will be a thread on here to volunteer for this role!

Participants have three diversion tactic options. Plot elsewhere on this post and then vote here!

The participants will need to organize themselves into teams. While one group intends to escort the technicians and programmers to where their work can be completed in the core code room and assembly line, another group will be responsible for choosing and carrying out a secondary objective that will serve as a distraction tactic. There are three options:

Destroy Resort - 90% success chance
Pros: Cripple facility by drawing attention to it, effective and quick
Cons: Cost of innocent lives, frames the FTSA as terrorists

Ruin or Disrupt Enclosure-Con - 80% success chance
Pros: Easy, accessible, non-violent.
Cons: Nothing gained, further villainizes and marginalizes the efforts of the FTSA, could take considerable time.

Kidnap Bureaucrat - 50% success chance
Pros: Cripple organization with ransom, obtain information, keeps all activity out of the public eye.
Cons: Very dangerous, jeopardizes mission, time-consuming.

So is the mission now now 21st-23rd to keep the same amount of time or 21st-22nd to have the same end time?

Are there really only three options? What if the diversion team got into contact with the FTSA people to arrange a distraction that way?

For future reference, questions like this might be best addressed under the mod questions comment above -- especially so other people can easily see what's already been asked.

These options are intended as broad-stroke examples and likely many alternative examples that might be thought up will fall somewhere along the same lines as these (in extremity if not in content). Certainly, if the players involved come to a consensus together on an alternate plan? You're all welcome to pitch it to us and we'll give you the pros/cons. The practical upshot is that it would have been tough for us to outline every option from the get-go so we decided to give three pre-fabricated options that seemed most obvious from the first blush.

But plot with your fellow players! See what you can come up with. When a cohesive and agreed-upon plan is drawn up, we'll let you guys know the possible success rate.

I was actually more asking everyone else about what they thought about creating an alternate plan of action, since it wouldn't really be helpful to ask you for more alternate options if we didn't have characters who wanted to implement them! I guess I didn't really word it well though. I assumed you all would be fine with an alternate plan if we came up with one that was reasonable.

I kind of really love the idea of working with the FTSA regardless of what is done, and kind of laughed that you beat me to saying it here. BUT I am also undecided on what I want Shikamaru doing, so I will come back to this.

I think it would be fun to get involved with them - maybe even something as dramatic as getting their help to burst onto the stage in the middle of enclosure-con's masquerade and telling everyone about what life is really like until security comes after them. Dressing up in cosplay of themselves. Or something like that.

But unfortunately Sophie herself is only here to protect Pascal so she'd want to go with the group that follows the scientists.

FACILITY LAYOUT

Question re: the facility layout, since the log states they'll have access to that.

Does this facility mirror two of the ones that have been visited in the past (ie. the one on the draft/the third floor mission, and the one the Bil decoys infiltrated) or is it different?

If it's the same, is there a third floor on this one? And how far would it be from where the technicians and co. are going?

I'm not sure I understand this all spacially - could I get someone to walk me through this? The droid facility where the actual sabatoge takes place is hidden in a resort... is the con in the resort? I can't seem to find that in the log but can someone draw me a word map of how this all lays out?

While OOCly I would love to put Daisy in a maid outfit, sadly, she's aware she'd be immediately identified. So many wasted possibilities! Not many people her size or social incompetence!

But still, Daisy would agree with working with them, since they could be allies. However, hurting innocents is a complete no-no, and she's a little afraid some of the Lucetians might be recognized, hence why she'd remain on the shadows while the better disguisers take part in the more social acts.

Capturing the bureaucrat... is tempting for her, but it'd risk the mission a lot for all of the enclosures, and 50/50 odds aren't good unless you are the Master Chief.

Yeah... I was just thinking of all the possible outcomes, one that gets us in physical contact with a group that wants to help us is the best for us in the long run, no matter how well the mission goes otherwise.

No, it's all subterranean. Imagine something like this, but bigger and with a few basement levels. So it's nothing like the previous facilities. This one is more 'factory' and 'development' than it is a strictly operations facility like we've seen in the past.

Distraction Team

For Plot B, aka the distraction option, I'm still undecided on what's the best pick, but I was curious as to who was planning to stick their character on this team too.

So sound off? I think this is something Shikamaru would put himself on.

Am definitely veering more towards combining B and C. Basically use a distraction as a front to pulling off a kidnapping.

This was my thought too. Shikamaru is like Daisy in being against hurting innocents, but some interesting things could be learned from a group like the FTSA. Maybe nothing vital in the long run, but at the least perceptions maybe?

So far it's the plan that could work the best -- get the people that could get in touch with the FSTA to make a diversion along with them, preferably the ones that could keep their identities hidden with the cosplay.

Perhaps, in that convention, they could reveal some of the truth of the situation people in the enclosures really face. Even if they have a grossly erroneous knowledge of what happens in there, sympathizing with both the fans of the enclosures and with the FSTA could be good in the long run.

Although Daisy would prefer focusing on the main mission: sabotaging the droids, not getting caught, and getting out of there.
