We've scavenged an event for you!

Hey everyone! It’s that time again. Time to do the friend add_read dance. All together now! Swing your arms from side to side, come on, it’s time to do the add_read dance! Copy the list below, then paste it into the Admin Console! If you’re logged into the wrong journal, then you failed the add_read dance!

Are you done with that? Are you sure? [Squints.] Okay, okay. Good. Now here’s an event for you. But only because I trust you.

Ever fancy a vacation to tour the pyramids of Egypt? How about a quick trip to another planet? Well -- willing or unwilling, the inhabitants of Luceti will, for five days, will have a number of different locations pop up around around town. Starting on the 24th, five different geographical or chronological destinations will suddenly take over Luceti’s environment. These destinations will come with their own inhabitants, flora and fauna, architecture, weather, and...in some cases? Customary beverages. Think of it a little bit as a more authentic Epcot (complete with silly stereotypes) with the safety turned way down. Or, perhaps, a holodeck gone amuck. Characters will be able to freely tour all of the areas but they should be careful! After all, those pyramids have real booby traps and those mammoths have real tusks.

The event will run from the 24th to 28th, starting at 12:00AM on the 24th to 11:59PM on the 28th for a full five days.

Ah! But what, you might ask, is the catch? Besides the inherent dangers of each location, their boundaries are also not exactly...firm. That is, as the experiment progresses, cavemen might be found wandering at the bases of pyramids with tommy guns while gangsters ride mastodons as they duke it out with samurai. As the balance of power shifts and as the villagers explore, help, or hinder the different denizens of each time and place, the destinations will begin to bleed into each other.

Do note that while characters can get minor injuries, none of these NPCs or creatures will actually kill anyone. They all operate in much the same manner as they do in the Battle Dome. If you kill someone or something, they’ll just respawn later with a complete reset of their memories. So while characters may be encouraged to find peaceful resolutions, they certainly are welcome to get their fight on with some guilt-free killing. Think of these NPCs as what you’d find in a video game. They are intelligent enough, they have lots of possible reactions, but ultimately they’re not real and are guided by programmed protocols to act in certain ways. In other words, don’t expect an engrossing conversation out of them.

Just as the event starts, Luceti will receive a message from one of the Malnosso - CJ, in particular. Beyond his usual rambling about missions, he’ll offer Lucetians a chance to earn a chance to earn some points for a prize. They don’t even have to leave the enclosure to do it! In order to earn forty points, all they have to do is find ten items for a scavenger hunt. Listed below are two items for each area. All of these prizes can be obtained in a variety of ways. However trying to get them by force will, for once, be the most difficult way of succeeding. Instead, CJ will encourage Lucetians to use their wits and other talents to try and obtain these items. After all, you can’t solve all of life’s problems with violence.

If you want to have your character cash in for these items, we ask that you manage to do two threads with your character collecting these items. They can work together with other people and share the loot they find. But we want people to actually tag out the scavenger hunt and not just handwave the entire thing. If you want to claim a prize, just use the reward claim post with a link to those two threads. The prizes will replenish themselves once claimed, and your characters can work in teams to acquire them, but each individual must have their own set of items in order to get points. In other words, if a team of two gets ten items, only one person gets the points.

While the NPCs will remain the same regardless of where they go, Lucetians will have outfits that fit wherever they are. Someone in Shogunate may start out with a kimono, suddenly have a fedora in Gangland, and be coated in furskins in Ice Age. Stuff that they own may warp to accommodate as well. For instance, your beer may become sake in Shogunate or your sword may become a laser sword in Space Opera. Naturally, once the experiment ends, all of these things will revert to their original state.

LOCATION DESCRIPTIONS

As you can see from the map below, the village and its environment has been divided into five different areas: prohibition-era gangland, pre-industrial Japan, a mammoth-ridden ice age, ancient Egypt, and an otherworldly alien planet.

Areas are not limited to just this map. The five areas will continue with the same theme and setting outward across Luceti, but not extend past the mountains. Additional houses, buildings, and so on will exist in the empty spaces in the map and beyond, making Luceti look bigger and more populated than it actually is.

THE NILE

In a vast desert, there exists a rare oasis alongside the beautiful Nile. Here there are pyramids, ancient monuments, a great palace, and all the tombs you could ever want to raid. It’s a treacherous place to live. You need not only worry about the cobras and scorpions, because these tombs are filled with deadly traps and mummies that guard their great treasures. Think of this as your ancient Egypt. Houses in this area will be very old looking, with the Community Building replaced with an elaborate Pharaoh’s palace.

Scavenger’s Hunt items:
  • Ceremonial dagger - These are typically carried by the priests that can be found around the palace or the pyramids. Taking them by force is an option, of course, but doing so will bring down the wrath of Pharaoh and his many guards. There may be others ways to obtain the dagger, though. Perhaps through a trade, by theft, or simply being cute enough that the priest can’t help but give it to you.
  • Pharoah’s treasure - Deep in the tombs lies the riches of the Pharaoh! Gold and jewels, it doesn’t matter what you bring back. The trick, of course, is that these tombs are filled with traps and ancient guardians, not to mention the Mummy of the ancient Pharaoh himself! It will take wit and guile to make it to the treasure chamber.

    GANGLAND
The town centre has been transformed into a scene straight from prohibition-era America. Think dapper-dressed mobsters and humble store-fronts, some of them hiding profitable speak-easies in their back rooms. Despite these architectural changes, the contents of the stores will not be altered. While you may not encounter any dangerous animals, you may run into some dangerous rum-runners. Houses will be simple townhouses and the Community Building has become a block of flats: sparse and cold on the lower floors, growing ever more lavish as the storeys pile up. Careful! The odd Studebaker will scream by, escaping some new bank heist or mischief.

    Scavenger Hunt items:
  • A tommy gun - Nearly every mobster in the area will be armed in some way; however, only a handful at any given time will possess a coveted tommy gun. They can be won in shoot-outs, or perhaps you might want to make a wager on a game of cards.
  • A set of keys - These might actually be a little trickier to get hold of. After all, you have to intercept one of those Studebakers. Or is that really the only way? Maybe you should start rifling through jackets hanging up in the back room of an illicit gin house...

    ICE AGE

Brr, it’s chilly. In a time long forgotten, men scraped their existence in the brutal cold while longing for the days of global warming. Inhabited by cave dwelling hunter-gatherers, the people here are simple folk who just want to survive. But when provoked, they are a strong warrior people who will protect their homes! Roaming these lands are mastodons, smilodons, and all manner of furry creatures. The houses will take on the look of large caves. Community Building 2 will have the appearance of a great and unusual ice palace.

    Scavenger Hunt items:
  • Bone spear - used by the hunters of the local people, these spears aren’t just weapons, but they’re tools critical to their survival. They won’t easily give them up and trying to fight them will just anger an entire tribe who will be eager to put you down. In a time before money, it may be best to resort to bartering.
  • Smilodon tooth - these ancient cats were larger than any large cat alive today. Weighing in at eight hundred pounds, these cats are notable by the two ‘saber teeth’ protruding from their upper jaw. Taking one of these teeth off a still living smilodon will be an incredible task. But then, no one ever said it had to be from a living smilodon, did they?

    SPACE OPERA

In the distant future, man has reached the stars and beyond! But this isn’t your Trek-flavored science fiction. In the future, everything is chrome. Ridiculous looking robots are designed for every task, and for some reason computers are all operated by blinking lights and levers. This is the vision of the future - if you lived in the fifties anyway. Hammy and old fashioned space opera is the name of the game here. The two community buildings will be unusual spacey towers, houses will be more of a Jetsons flavor, and the Battle Dome... well, it already fits the mood already. Outside the buildings, it has the appearance of a dead planet, with craters dotting the landscape and unusual terrain. Don’t worry though, apparently breathing won’t be an issue. You automatically get a bubble helmet around your head when you’re in this area.

    Scavenger Hunt items:
  • Raygun - As with the other sought-after weapons, a raygun can be taken by force. However, unless you’re equipped for a techno-shoot’em’up, you may want to consider other options. Introduce a spaceman to a world of old-time excitement -- bring him or her a home-cooked and not dehydrated meal, maybe. Might just hand the gun over in gratitude.
  • Part of a robot - these old fashioned robots have bulb eyes and vacuum tube arms, but don’t let their shoddy craftsmanship make you think it’ll be easy to just grab a piece off them. You can’t just disassemble a robot for no reason! Unless you can find an off switch. Or you could just find some space credits and buy a part from a shop.

    SHOGUNATE

Cherry blossoms fall as a lone samurai accepts a challenge on the matter of Honor. Will this test of skill be with the blade or with something else? Welcome to Feudal Japan, where samurai keep the peace from brigands who terrorize the countryside. Here the houses are simple ones of rice paper doors and walls, with the imperial palace where Community House 5 once stood. Here lies a beautiful land with rice fields ready for harvest, vendors in the streets selling mochi and other goods, and elegant koi ponds outside the homes. Beware of the night, though! Greedy ninjas lurk in the shadows, ready to deprive you of anything you may have already collected and may force you to start all over again.

    Scavenger Hunt items:
  • Samurai sword - what could be more important to a samurai than his own katana? Taking a weapon like that would be a challenge to his honor and if you don’t kill him first, then you’re bound to have him following you all around Luceti to retrieve it again. But if he were to lose it honorably, then maybe that wouldn’t be an issue.
  • Water from a kappa’s head - kappas are a strange sort of reptilian imp that are known for being mischievous tricksters. Despite being imbued with mystical powers, they’d rather put these to use with loud farting or peeking up women’s dresses. Trying to steal the water kept on the top of their head will be difficult for even the greatest of fighters. It’s said, however, that kappas are obsessively polite.

Please note that these areas are not limited to just the descriptions above. If you can think of something that fits the setting (like onis in Shogunate, crocodiles in the Nile river, martians in Space Opera, frozen dinosaurs in Ice Age, or hardboiled detectives in Gangland), then go for it! All of the above is just guidelines to set the tone, but shouldn’t be used to limit what you can do.

As always my good Lucetians, questions on the Mod Thread. The rest of this post is for you to plot! Discuss! Converse!

Hilda will be in The Nile which means she will go check out those tombs for treasure. She'll drag Ingo along with her on her explorations at some point but other than that, I haven't really planned anything else. After that she'll probably at least try doing the scavenger hunt.

That said, she wouldn't mind teaming up with random people. :B

Mei will have her first chance to really explore here, and boy is she going to take advantage of it. She'll probably be making her way straight to The Nile once she knows it exists to go tomb raiding, since treasure is fucking awesome.

But she can't stay in there forever, so she'll probably be around the Space Opera as well, having lots of fun in her scientist outfit... and Shogunate in her ninja outfit. Feel free to join her -- she'd love the company!

Winry: Lives in Ice Age. This girl will be on a whirlwind adventure with her ninja friend Ran Fan. It'll be a blast to say the least. However! That doesn't have to take up all of her time. I'd like to see her hang around in Gangland and Space Opera if anyone wants in on that (she also might have a date in Shogunate; oo la la).

Shiemi: Also lives in Ice Age. I don't know what I'm doing with her yet, so if anyone wants to grab her up for things (doesn't have to be scavenger hunting, but it can) then just drop me a line.

DRACO OFFICIALLY CLAIMS ALL MASTODONS IN THE NAME OF GIANT HUNGRY CARNIVORES.

also most of Egypt in the name of giant cold flying lizards who want to sunbathe on the sand

flying into Gangland automatically gives him +1 dragon-sized cigar and maybe a fedora

Um, yeah. Meanwhile, Yun has no plans, but will likely just be exploring. The scavenger hunt might be fun to do. :|a

"You can’t just disassemble a robot for no reason!"

    i beg to differ.

    [personal profile] hiken_ace 2012-11-21 05:54 pm (UTC)(link)
So, my plans for Ace are basically him competing in the scavenger hunt because that shit looks like fun. He's all over that. So, as such, Ace will also be all over the place. Rating the traps in the Nile, starting a fight or three in Gangland (while wearing this fabulous piece of work), hunting mastodons for lunch in the Ice Age, messing with robots in Space Opera, or eating some mochi while looking at the koi ponds in the Shogunate. Yeah, he's pretty much doing anything, I have no definite plans except for him to have fun. Especially since he kinda needs a distraction right now. >>

Okay, now a heads up for my activity during this whole thing. My drive is still a little dead, but since this event looks like a lot of fun, I think I'll be able to come back. But at the moment, my health isn't all that great, so my tags will still probably be slow. If you're okay with that, then plot away!

Adele is going to be pretty reclusive and jumpy in gangland and will spend the bulk of the event just. Hiding wherever she can. This is not something she wants to deal with- so she won't. She's got her head down somewhere safe.

Ben Grimm is going to try to get the items for himself and floor 5, and can be found knocking around the areas working on that. Or chuck'n Mammoths. It's a sport.

Zevran will be getting the items for himself. It's a questlike environment that's fairly carefree and while it's horribly strange he is going to be having a great time systematically stealing or tricking the npcs into giving him what he needs. He'll be around for anyone that wants a sneaky assassin helping them out!

Fenimore will be very annoyed to be in Space Opera land, given that she got rid of pretty much everything technological in House 34 a long time back, pretty much except for the fridge, the lights, and the heating. She is not good with this stuff. She might be able to figure out the stove, since she had to get used to using an electric stove, but unless someone more tech-savvy is willing to take over or they make use of the restaurant a lot, the quality of some of their meals may be going downhill quickly. She may try to steal the kitchen of an empty house in the nearby shogunate, since, while not like she's used to, it will probably be more intuitive to her luddite ways.

She will also take part in the scavenger hunt! She just did a much more dangerous thing for points during the mission. However, she's probably going to fail. Don't know yet if she will be missing a lot by the end or if she'll be just about to grab the last thing at midnight of the final day, but unless she gets really helped along to the point that it would be illogical for her to fail, she'll be really frustrated at the end of the event. At least she'll be able to blame it on having to find someone to look after Sophie any time she goes out scavenging -- it may not be life-threatening, but she's not going to bring Sophie along for the dangers.

Alexei. Don't have anything clear cut with Alexei yet, but he'll probably wander into Gangland, Shogun and Space Opera land and fight some NPCs and defend people if needed. Maybe he'll try some outfits

Roku. He's going to be taking part in the scavenger hunt with Bolin and Aang as far as I'm aware? Although that doesn't stop them from gathering more people. And he may also spend a bit of time in the Nile area, because holy crap heat in the middle of winter! Someone will probably need to help him out in the pyramids. |D

OK, this event looks really entertaining, but the last part of it falls while I'm going to be moving. So as a heads up for anyone who wants to plot, I will be a little slow next week, but I backtag forever so.

Saori: will be pretty open for the duration of the event. Waking up in Gangland, she'll probably migrate to the Shogunate area for the duration of the event. I think she'll be wandering around there just being herself for most of it (since it's a blast from her past), but she'll definitely be collecting a katana and kappa head-water, possibly multiple times. Anyone who looks a little lost or confused can have a friendly Japanese god to help them out. Expect to see her observing all sorts of weird habits, and for me to add all sorts of appropriately weird Japanese mythological critters to threads.

Chun-Li: Is going to be waking up in SPAAAAAACE, and probably beating a hasty retreat to more familiar sorts of places. I'm sure she can be found exploring pyramids, getting into fist-fights with cranky cave-men, and doing all sorts of things a Street Fighter might. Gangland beware, Hong Kong's premier cop is on the beat.

Rei: will be waking up in the Nile, and in general she's going to focus on spending time with her close friends because she's feeling a little distant from them. Of course, she'll also be protecting the shrine from hostile cave-men too. She can be found for sure around the Nile, Gangland, the Ice Age and the Shogunate (because the miko feels at home there). If there are any special requests for Rei, let me know so we can plot, since the only things I really have planned are for her and Harry Dresden to get chased by a smilodon.

Luke Skywalker: Will be all nope about this for the most part. He's going to take ONE look at Space-Land and lineface, and then promptly sign up for a mission. Sorry, Luke sits this out.

Natasha will be waking up in the Shogunate area and can probably be found there most times when not occupied elsewhere or exploring, since this is her first event here in Luceti. She does intend to embark on the scavenger hunt for the points and the challenge of it, so feel free to nab her for any one of the tasks.

The Nile, the Shogunate, and Gangland will most likely hold the most interest for her, although I expect her to spend a little time in each. Feel free to nab her for random threads or for scavenging! I think the only thing plotted for her is a stabbity adventure with Zevran and possible Avenger team-ups for some of the hunts. But she's very open to new or further CR with people! :)

oh snap it will be Kyouhei's first chance to explore and junk so you bet your butt he's gonna be going everywhere and dressed in some dumb outfits and probably make some i mean cmon totally need ice age and gangland worthy clothes

but he'll also be joining the treasure hunting so you can find him chasing kappas or chilling with the martians or SOMETHING. he might also be with mei and colress mostly having adventures but trainers will be trainers and you can catch him off to the side when a certain something doesn't stay still

also for any scavenger hunting, you can bet kyouhei here will lend you a hand if you need it!

    All right, so far:

    - Loki will be waking up in the Shogunate area

    - There will be gangland shenanigans with Rogue at least, but I think he'll be in there a lot because that man will look so hot in a suit and I'm shallow like that.

    - He will be doing the scavenger hunt with Rapunzel as his primary buddy.

Let me know if you would like him for other shenanigans. Other than for the scavenger hunt Loki will be avoiding the Ice Age area, but he'll find the rest of them fairly amusing.

Clint will be waking up in the Shogunate area and will be based there (not least because it means I can shove him into his 616 incarnation's Ronin outfit XD). He will definitely be taking part in the scavenger hunt and will help and hinder others as he feels like.

He'll probably spend a lot of time in Gangland, because guns and awesome hats, but he'll be travelling around. Feel free to hit me up for things :D

Teddy will be... off with Billy at first, seeing how they decided to get away to celebrate their one year anniversary just the day before. We haven't quite decided when they'll be back, but at some point they'll warp back home only to show up in Shogunate.

His primary partner, as a result, will be Billy, but I'm always up for shenanigans for others too!

Luke is going to wake up in Gangland, though I haven't made any set plans for him yet. He'll probably be trying to get out as soon as he can (too much noise), but at least attempt a try at the scavenger hunt as well. He's more open for plotting, if others want him!

Isaac will be teaming up with Zevran partly or in full for some scavenging and will also be willing to gather and trade extras of certain items as not to have to go into territories he's not fond of (see: Ice Age). That's if he's feeling fair. He might try to mess up people's efforts and/or to steal a thing or two, only with permission.

Spencer will be back from the mission and frowning at the fact that there's even more sand surrounding him now (Hello, Nile). His arm will undergo changes in every region although it shall function the same as always. For example, in the Nile, the cables will look like snakes or woven reeds, and metallic parts will resemble clay.

Both guys have no major plans, as you can see. This is good, though, because I don't want to load up all too much in light of an incoming Isaac entry and with Spencer tackling mission-y threads right now. Light plotting is best. :3

Souji will be waking up in Gangland, but once he finds his way his way to Shogunate? He's staying. He's not participating in this silly scavenger hunt nonsense but rather being "home" while he can. Also will probably patrol the castle because goddamn Hijikata wouldn't let him go that one time the Shogun visited Kyoto. He'll be finding any and every opportunity to cut some heads and may actually help a poor fellow Lucetian if one of those pesky ninjas gets to them. At the same time, he hides his wings so if mistaking him for an NPC samurai is a thing then ???

Cecil will most likely be unaware of the fact that there's a scavenger hunt going on and wander around between areas enjoying everything. He might end up spending significantly more time in the Nile because it's a desert and so is his home. Until someone tells him that there's a scavenger hunt going on he'll have no idea, but once he finds out he'll definitely want to participate (despite not knowing what a 'scavenger hunt' is) and will be willing to help others out. As for the scavenger hunt, she is going to be super-enthusiastic! ...And phenomenally bad at it. So, erm...she'll almost definitely need to sign on with some sympathetic souls. :D?

Hermes is going to be checking out of his apartment until further notice because they don't make sweaters in size octopus and all his toys are now at the bottom of an iceblock. Most likely he'll stick around in the Shogunate or the more watery areas of the Nile, unless someone gives him a reason to do otherwise.

I'd really like him to get in on the scavenger hunt due to his fondness for puzzles and finding things hidden inside other things. It's his Thing. He'd probably be willing to part with them afterwards, the fun's in the finding. As long as it's not in bitter cold I'm about open to everything.

Kouki will be coming back from his mission in time for the event, woo! Well, ICly back on 27th, but there's some time left.

Since he lives in CH7, that leaves him smack right inside Gangland. After he make sure his friends are okay and help them out, he would go around and explore all the places!

A part of him might try the scavenger hunt, but his mind's focused on exploring all the places.

I am kind of excited about this event and want to get my characters out there this time! So I would enjoy plotting around.

Robert here is going to be in the Shogunate area! This means he's going to have to brush up on his feudal Japanese. He will be mostly interested in exploring and studying the simulated areas, particularly when he realizes that they're not accurate to what he knows. It's an interesting look into Malnosso psychology! He's intelligent enough to maybe help with a few of the scavenger hunt items, if you want his help.

Kazooie on the other hand is going to be in Gangland, and definitely will be scavenging. She has her full wings back, though she may still be suffering from the effects of a Death Penalty removal! (I am going to have to check for specifics; will get back to everybody on that.) She's definitely not afraid to use force to get items, though, and so she'll probably just end up getting everything by slapping around mooks until they cough it up. ... Sounds like fun to work with, right?

Either way, I'm up for just about anything. \o/

Hiro will now be living in Gangland, but I bet he'll be spending a lot of time in the Shogunate because it reminds him of home (well... a bit, anyway). He'll be trying to get the treasures there if he can, though I think he'll be doing more exploring than item collecting. He's more than willing to help you find something, though!

Fattycakes has two huts in Gangland and one in the Space Opera. He's going to be freaking out about the sudden changes and probably hiding from Gangland's inhabitants. He might enjoy exploring the Space Opera a bit, though (because that's where he's probably going to hide to get away from Gangland).

Zelgius will be living in the Shogunate once I submit his information. He's going to be wandering around and be very, very confused by his first experiment in Luceti.

I'm gonna go off on a limb by saying this doofy bowlcut and my snark queen are both in Gangland. I'm open to anything, really--the former's bound to jump onto the scavenger hunt because Naoto was a subtle influence on his mindset, and Shepard? Well, she won't show much interest in it.

Any ideas I can roll with? 8|

ALL MY CHARACTERS LIVE IN GANGLAND well isn't that inconvenient.

Joshua is playing along because this looks like fun. He will be willing to drag along people, so if someone looks like they might be useful or drag-along-able he would be up for that. I think the bottom of his house will become an NPC-run shop, or something. But he will be hanging out more off in the Shogunate, because lolnostalgia.

Repliku can be dragged along but won't be doing stuff himself, though he'll be... awkwardly trying to keep people out of trouble. :Db

Saten will be trying to collect things but considering her strategy is just killing things, she won't get all of them, lol.

Arietta can be dragged along! She can't be expected to help with anything that requires cunning but she might be helpful one way or another.
