Greetings and Happy Holidays to all you winged people out there!
This month we're keeping things low-key with a classic event you've all come to expect this time of year. For once, Lucetians get to have their Christmas-or-equivalent holiday without interference… until afterwards, anyway. Things at Malnosso HQ are a little behind, hush. However! Starting on December 26th and ending on January 1st, Luceti will become overtaken by the festive spirit and will have its halls decked in non-denominational cheer! Lights on the trees! Wreaths on the doors! Amusing decorations adorning everyone's front lawns! (You know at least one person has that one that looks like a reindeer taking a piss.) And with all that comes everyone's favorite thing in the whole world!
Mistletoe.
The mistletoe will be found in a variety of places. In doorways, hanging off coat racks, even mysteriously floating in mid-air. Basically wherever it's conveniently needed, honestly. Normally, when two people meet under the mistletoe, they must kiss in order to leave. But this year, the mistletoe will be providing some additional fun. When your character steps under the mistletoe, they could be subjected to one of a variety of effects, detailed below. Ending those effects and leaving the mistletoe's curse remains the same though. So pucker up! The effects are:
Passion: Suddenly, you're overwhelmed with intense feelings of love for the other person, and you want to express those feelings to them now! Hand holding, hugging, sticking your hand in their back pocket. Keep it SFW, but you'd best prepare to lock fingers as you lock lips.
Anger: Or maybe you're feeling intense anger at them for some inexplicable reason. Let your fists do the kissing for you. (First person to pull a German suplex gets a cookie.)
Narcolepsy: You're actually overcome by an intense wave of drowsiness and decide right now seems like the perfect time to pass out on the ground. Whoever your unlucky partner is will have to kiss you if you have any hope of waking up again.
Dramatic: A tearful reunion awaits you! As you two meet on this fateful day underneath the mistletoe, you can't help but have intense feelings over this moment in time for this person!
Playful: Show a bit of harmless teasing to your new partner! A poke? A tickle? Whatever floats your happy little boat.
Kiss: ...Or maybe you just have to kiss them. It's mistletoe, man.
These are only a few ideas. Both people don't have to have the same effect, and we'll also be taking ideas for other effects in a thread down below!
Also, since it usually doesn't take people long to figure out what's going on and therefore try to avoid the mistletoe (or at least avoid meeting people under it), on occasion the mistletoe will be tweaked to trap someone beneath it- and then urge them to latch on to the nearest passerby and pull them in. These compulsive urges can be resisted, but it's tricky to do so. Sometimes it's just better to go with the flow, really...
So what's the point?
Thankfully, all of this cheeky holiday business isn't for nothing. It's providing annual entertainment to all of those hard-working scientists (this is their second favourite time of year) and they're going to show their gratitude with some experimental home-Shifting as a result of all that kissing-etc that goes on. For every mistletoe encounter your character has, a tiny tally will be created on the front of their journal- sort of like this. The "score" at the end of the experiment dictates what they get for their holiday gift.
Like previous years, characters will be permitted to choose something as a reward for their "hard work" (AKA suffering). Something small that you might be able to claim via a small-scale mission, for example. It can be a precious item from home, something they've sorely missed during their time in Luceti, or a pet… there's plenty of options. Down below you'll find a thread for getting approval on unusual items you're not sure will qualify as a gift.
People who attempt to evade their fates by destroying, removing or otherwise damaging the mistletoe will find their kissing counter reversed, one by one. Those who find themselves in the negative might discover some of their possessions disappearing, or get something they DON'T want, or perhaps they'll receive a gift of a random, unpleasant Shift for a day or so. They can always try to bump themselves back up into the positive mark, of course, if they figure out what's going on. It's up to your own character to change their fate :B
The Shift glitches themselves (AKA the weird negative effects) can potentially take effect after the holidays are over, if you're looking for an excuse to have something fun or quirky to your character, but it's up to you.
That's it! Questions, suggestions, and gift requests can be made down below.
Also, we know this is a pretty tame event compared to what we've done in previous years, so we just want to apologize for that. We're still a bit of an organizational mess over here due to everyone being busy for one reason or another, so again, thanks for your patience, everyone! Let's just have some harmless fun and save the real chaos for what's coming in the future… heh.
