How's My Driving?

This is a crit post for both the community and game and for your characters. If you have something you'd like to see us improve upon with the game, PLEASE TELL US HERE! Anon commenting is on, but if anything gets really nasty there will be warnings and thread-freezing. This isn't required but everyone is encouraged to take advantage of the advice of your fellow players!

Just some pointers: no taking cheap shots, no dragging personal issues into things and for the love of all that is wise and great, please double check your replies and comments before posting them. Sometimes a change in phrasing can make all the difference between a helpful tone and a condescending one.

ALSO ALSO: We'd like to clarify that HMD means HMD- which means it's okay to have both good and bad crit. Some people have expressed concerns about posting good/bad crit when a character already has bad/good crit posted. We'd like to encourage you guys to do it anyway! You can drive well or badly, and even good drivers make mistakes. So give it a try \o

It's true that Katara feels very strongly about equality between men and women (that women are fully capable as men as fighters and in all other aspects), however I would argue that it's not her culture she raged against. In the Southern Watertribe, men and women waterbenders fought side-by-side. But regardless of that - Luceti is a remarkably egalitarian place where even traditionally evil beings like 'demons' are considered equal with others and given a fair shot - let alone women. I don't feel that it would be appropriate for her to address an issue which is a... nonissue, if that makes sense? When things come up in conversation, such as her talk with Sanji some time ago about hitting women, or if someone is able dumb enough to mention something like that in her presence, then there's an opportunity for that to come out. As it is, though, I don't think she'd feel the need to 'preach to the choir,' rather, she's exercising her feminism by enjoying the opportunities offered and taking advantage of the fact that as of right now she is accepted for the warrior that she is without having to shout from the rooftops 'I'm good enough even though I'm a girl!'

Wait, wait, wait. You mean those three are all yours? Honestly I wouldn't know unless I looked at a list like this.

I enjoy threading with both Homura and Mihai (even if the later isn't being a "pleasant" thread for the chars 8D) and I love to stalk to Sanosuke to the end of the world. I hear their voices perfectly in the way you play them and you make them even more interesting than in the canon, or at least I come to like them even more than in the original.

Maybe later! I'm about fifteen minutes away from crashing right now, and long tl;dr is long. Bullet points are:

-She should have apologized. The goal was to teach Aang waterbending. Aang is the Avatar. His learning it is more important than her. She knows this.
-She didn't care. Waterbending had been her dream since forever, it was who she is, she wanted to learn how to fight and how dare he stand in her way for something so stupid.
-She knew that Pakku would beat her. She didn't care. She was determined to do everything that she could to prove that he had to take her seriously as a fighter.
-She almost did apologize. But something in her just snapped at the injustice of it all. And she doesn't look back on challenging him with anything other than a sense of rightness. He was wrong, she was right, and she's just glad that he was finally able to see what his stupid commitment to male superiority (or 'his culture) had cost him.
-At the core of who she is, Katara is a fighter

Mizuno Ami / Mercury

No crit here, you know I adore Ami and how you play her and I know how much thought and effort you put in her. Personally I think you're doing a great job with brining her out of the shell and getting more involved and active so, yeah...

I only have a suggestion, which may be a bad idea but, whatever I'll drop it here. This comes from threading with you in here and with your other muses, I've come to notice that you seem to flow better in third person narrations for the tags. Then again maybe it's just me but when you write in third person and thus narrate sometimes the character seems to say far more than what the words they say do, even if the character they are interacting with is completely oblivious to it. At least it gives the other mun some insight on the insides of your character and it may make it easier to think of a tag back.

So my idea was why don't you use action brackets a bit more? Of course many may argue that if there's no action being described they are not needed, but with the kind of character that Ami is and knowing how well you are in giving OOC insight of the character to the other mun with just a few words it may help to drive away the impression some seem to get that she's hard to tag with or whatever.

Thank you! I admit that there are times when I still struggle with her, or when I'm afraid I'm not doing very well since I haven't RPed her actively in three years and there was a period of time where I really disliked her. Everyone in our Abyss cast is just so amazing and I really don't want to disappoint anyone. In fact, I apped her on a whim, her voice just returned so strongly for the first time in a long while. I'm glad I'm meeting expectations, it means a lot to me.

I look forward to her and Nephry interacting more, their interactions just seem very sweet from what we have done and soon she'll have to start teaching Nephry to defend herself, that should be interesting. :3

No, it's a good suggestion. Some crit I got elsewhere actually said essentially the same, to think more about the action/thought part of what's going on and even when it's voice, to do more with tone and such. It's something I've been working on slowly, but that I also notice I still have issues with. I will keep working on it.
