How's My Driving?

This is a crit post for both the community and game and for your characters. If you have something you'd like to see us improve upon with the game, PLEASE TELL US HERE! Anon commenting is on, but if anything gets really nasty there will be warnings and thread-freezing. This isn't required but everyone is encouraged to take advantage of the advice of your fellow players!

Just some pointers: no taking cheap shots, no dragging personal issues into things and for the love of all that is wise and great, please double check your replies and comments before posting them. Sometimes a change in phrasing can make all the difference between a helpful tone and a condescending one.

ALSO ALSO: We'd like to clarify that HMD means HMD- which means it's okay to have both good and bad crit. Some people have expressed concerns about posting good/bad crit when a character already has bad/good crit posted. We'd like to encourage you guys to do it anyway! You can drive well or badly, and even good drivers make mistakes. So give it a try \o

I'm really, really, really glad that you added Storm back to the mix. She's such a presence and it feels so much better to have them having a Team Leader, not only for Rogue (so she doesn't have to be 'in charge') but just because that's their dynamic.

You Xmen Evo cast seriously make me want to go back and watch it. And you know, at first I was a little bummed that I couldn't app Bruce from the comics because of circumstance and time limitations, but you guys make me really glad I didn't. It's so fun seeing Bruce have to start from scratch and find out things about the Xmen in bits and pieces. If I had apped him from the comics, I wouldn't have had such a privilege.

And that thread they had where they were just talking? That was epic. Really, I never thought I could have fun just playing a character who was just having a normal conversation. BUT IT WAS SUPAH FUN. But yesh. Anyways your Storm is spot on. I haven't seen Evo all the much in the last couple years, but I can tell you got her voice down pact and I have no complaints for her. Aside from KEEP BEING AWESOME AW YEEEAH.

First of all, I'd like to say how much I enjoy having you and Michael back in the game. I think he's an interesting and engaging character, and there have been many times I've appreciated his insight and just overall perspective on things in general. The thread where he explained 'chivalry' to Katara and managed to walk away without getting his head beaten in is still one of my favorites.

But I do have a piece of constructive crit - keep in mind that I'm canon blind here, but it seems as if when I see Michael about he gives the impression that he's always on the make. With Katara in particular I started to become uncomfortable because the focus seemed to be that he appreciated her and thought she was lovely... all without ever really getting to know her. With the other girls I've seen him flirt with - he does flirt, but it very rarely seems... 'in good fun?'

Maybe it's that the icons are fanart and don't really seem to reflect that he's seventeen (some of them give the impression that he is a great deal older) or the action that is going on in the thread at the time, but in reading his threads I often get the feeling that his main interest seems to be in getting everyone to think he's very impressive, male or female. And I'd think that if he just walked around knowing he was impressive and finding ways to prove it - being consistent, and loyal, and insightful, or willing to listen, or the like... it would be a lot more effective. Since in Luceti, he's not a flyboy, no one knows who he is, so the automatic fangirl approach just doesn't work - and I think he'd be insightful enough to realize that difference and work with it.

I may be speaking completely blindly, but I just wanted to have a chance to put out my perspective, because I miss Katara and Michael's CR. I found him an interesting character and you fun to RP with, and I hope in expressing this you're not completely blindsided but as I still open the CR meme every time I open my computer (I WILL get back to that, darnit) and I see you saying that Katara and Michael don't hang out as much... I've come to realize my not feeling comfortable is why, and I'd really like that to change - so I figured I'd better just say it.

I think to echo one point Shira sort of glossed over, is that you might want to consider the impression your icons make. I recently myself found myself in a dilemma where I realized that Jack's icons were doing him no favors, as they were creating for him an image that wasn't really consistent with his characterization in he comic. In other words, he came off looking too creepy, when he really shouldn't have that problem at all.

I think Michael would benefit so much if you swapped out some of his existing icons for some more neutral expressions. In LJRP the icons really do function as a way of adding an extra layer of what your character's current emotions and thoughts are, on top of whatever you wrote. The fact that a lot of times his icons are seductive grinning or posturing sort of destroys the casual playboy attitude that Michael displays in the anime. He may be comfortable with sexuality, but he also doesn't flaunt it.

That said, if you're just having problems finding icons, I think I know where you might be able to get some? I can ask around, anyway. If not, I can make handful for you instead. I realize you probably don't want to go for a paid account, although if you ever want to have a full thirty, there is a trick you can do with the Paid Trial that'll let you keep thirty.

Derek! *glomp* You have made him so well-rounded, hun. It's absolutely amazing how three-dimensional he is. I'm really glad that Katara's gotten comfortable enough to really talk to him, and the fact that Rogue has someone around to talk music with is a godsend. He is one of my all time favorite adults in the game, and the character development he's been through here has been an amazing story to watch. Thanks for all the effort with him - really.
