AC Results / HMD

The results for the Activity Check are in. Please note that the following characters were either inactive, didn't post to the activity check, or failed to speak to a moderator about their activity. Also added were characters who have dropped recently, for your convenience.

Copy-paste the following here:

A number of you passed the activity check, but barely. (You know who you are.) Try to pick things up, as it's no fun to character-squat.

If there are any mistakes here, please let us know! Additionally, if your character was removed and you're still active, feel free to appeal to one of us about keeping your character. However, please remember next time to stay active and post to the Activity Check. Thank you!

And as always:

HMD

How's My Driving?

This is a crit post for both the community and game and for your characters. If you have something you'd like to see us improve upon with the game, PLEASE TELL US HERE! Anon commenting is on, but if anything gets really nasty there will be warnings and thread-freezing. This isn't required but everyone is encouraged to take advantage of the advice of your fellow players!

Just some pointers: no taking cheap shots, no dragging personal issues into things and for the love of all that is wise and great, please double check your replies and comments before posting them. Sometimes a change in phrasing can make all the difference between a helpful tone and a condescending one.

ALSO ALSO: We'd like to clarify that HMD means HMD- which means it's okay to have both good and bad crit. Some people have expressed concerns about posting good/bad crit when a character already has bad/good crit posted. We'd like to encourage you guys to do it anyway! You can drive well or badly, and even good drivers make mistakes. So give it a try \o

I thought the droids were stoppable, since you can destroy as many as you like they just keep sending more out to get you. That doesn't imply that they're all powerful and could take out the Third Party instead of us.

And there's also a power-cap in the village, it could be that the droids aren't affected by it or even have increased power that wouldn't work outside the barrier? Who knows.

Agreeing with the villains thing considering I play one. Starscream as it is has enough trouble getting CR and if he goes and hurts people at random it'll only make him even harder to play. But yeah just throwing that out there. Villains are hard to play even without injuring people but that is still an option in terms of player plots.

The short and to the point observation is this: The plot feels stagnant.

This is exactly how I feel, put into a single sentence.

Not all of the older players are having this sort of issue; it's just the differences in personality and where some people see the game now and where they'd like it to be.

What we really need is a compromise that will benefit hopefully everyone for the most part.

Yeah, Luceti doesn't really strike me as a game well-suited for villains in general. But I do have to respect and admire the players who put forth the effort.

Hi!

I was under the impression new characters could read older entries. I recall Masa stating that Sokka read his entries from his previous time in Luceti? So I think the information is accessible, it's just unclear.

The information on the main journals is accessible. Information on the Lucetilocked community, like Albert's info posts, isn't, though, unless the character was present for those posts.

Edit: Also I think the accessibility of old posts varies based on whether the mun wants it to be or not either.

Disclaimer: I have not read every reply in this thread in its entirety.

I like the idea of even more alternatives for being deliciously terrible to our characters. Some people maybe don't want kidnapping and a sickness-and-cure setup like you describe would work great for that.

I also like the kidnappings and I want them to stay. Can't we just have all the nice things? Kidnapping has been a part of the premise from the beginning, and yes, the characters learn to live with the fear over time, but the effects of that are interesting too. ...Frankly, it's one of the main reasons I joined this game in the first place - the premise seemed workable and flexible.

More flexible OOC-wise, with more options for why characters are gone or different effects/plots to have, that would be awesome. Completely changing the way an integral part* of the game works? Feels less awesome.

* The argument "well the plot has led it to become obsolete" won't hold much water with me. They're still in charge here - they can do what they want. We're their war machines, and war machines get tested.

Yeah, I realized in retrospect I might've generalized too much. Sorry about that.

I was just trying to propose a potential reason people are seeing things so differently. I figured if we can identify the reason we're not seeing eye-to-eye, it might be easier to figure out a solution we're all happy with.
wildkotetsu: (SUIT » ready??)

[personal profile] wildkotetsu 2012-02-20 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
Oh no, I know they're stoppable as in you can destroy them, but yeah, they're unstoppable in that once they're after a character, there's no getting out of a mallynap. Unless I've just misinformed myself on that! >_>

I think the matter is giving the characters something to fight back to and feel some sort of triumph. Whether it's protecting a friend from droids or kicking your own droids' asses into the dirt, the citizens DO want to feel like this is tug-of-war, or something to that effect.

But that probably makes it sound like I'm speaking for everyone; so mainly, my characters would love to feel like they can struggle back without falling miserably on their faces? Constant defeat is a real bummer for 'em, I guess.

That's exactly what I was thinking! I assumed the droids have that invulnerability inside the barrier, but outside in battles with the Third Party they would be easily destroyed.

I don't mind mallynappings being tweaked if needed or even some mallynappings being thwarted, but substituting them with Shift Sickness just seems to be unnecessary.
of_sablier: (Maybe if I just lie here)

[personal profile] of_sablier 2012-02-20 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
I really don't like the Shift Sickness idea either, though, for the reasons already stated, and honestly, I don't see how that would lessen the trauma on CR at all.

I'd be all for something like making the droids defeatable-- in fact, I rather like that idea. But I don't think they should be removed entirely.

I have to respectfully disagree. Plot is fun because it progresses, and the next logical progression to me seems to be tackling the issue of kidnappings, as it's something characters would and are trying to address ICly. It's not too fun if IC efforts can yield no rewards.

Your explanation makes a little more sense, thank you very much, and actually I feel a little less reserved about it now as a potential solution.

As for the droids, I can definitely get behind having then removed from the equation. Like I suggested, maybe have the whole Shifting straight to the labs. The Malnosso could have developed it because they couldn't afford losing droids in the barrier anymore, especially with the Third Party breathing down their necks.

I still think it might help to have some of the thwarted kidnappings mentioned elsewhere in this thread, just to give newer members a frame of reference/buildup, but I can definitely see this as another option.

You know what I think would be quite awesome? If a group of characters worked together and thwarted a mallynap attempt! I don't see a rule that says they can't, it could be really interesting if done right!

I will respectfully disagree right back. I like the kidnappings for the options they offer. You can't always get your way against the all-powerful force of the world, no matter how much investigating you do or problem-addressing you start.

The plot does need to progress some more. I agree with those who are saying that not much has felt plot-relevant in that overarching, reveal the deeper mystery way in a long time.

Concerning the issues brought forth above, and incorporating some ideas that were commented on above... Just an idea for a plot.

* Another opportunity to invade a Rogue Facility arises, courtesy of Bil's network of contacts. Not just any Rogue Facility, but one that houses the master controls that control all of the droids that the Rogue Facilities have overrode from the proper Organization.

* Some infiltrators will have an opportunity to gather information and work similarly in confining the scientists and management (as was done the previous mission), but some of the infiltrators are purely hackers and robotics specialists who are tasked with shutting down the master computer for droid control. (Some of the script would, of course, be provided by Bil/the Organization to keep them from trying to cross the network and affect the main Organization's droids. The hackers could be provided the option to try to disable the main Organization's droids, with negative consequences that could affect the following draft.)

* As a result of this infiltration, the Rogue Facilities are dealt a pretty harsh blow, but not completely put out of the picture. Perhaps this would open mission opportunities where computer-saavy intellectuals attempt to assist in tracking down Rogue Facility locations by tracing the GPS-like programs inside the deactivated and confiscated droids from the facility.

* Also as a result, the Rogue Facilities have to work on different ways to abduct the Luceti inhabitants. They could get their hands on a handful of Luceti inhabitants' Shifted barcodes at a time, and attempt to Shift people outside of the barrier. This could result in a dangerous upturn of priorities for both the Malnosso Organization and the Third Party, as the ability to Shift-teleport people outside of the barrier and to a specific area would be extremely valuable to all of the parties involved. And then John rages and immediately goes about to reverse this upstart Shift scientist's breakthrough Shift.

Edit: Good grief, this got longer than I expected. So much for not adding to the huge comments. Sorry. u_u

NGL, Wolfwood and Kotetsu would actually have JOBS in Luceti if that happened. They're the types to do whatever they can to stop the droids. PLOT WITH ME ANON, WE CAN MAKE THESE THINGS HAPPEN*.

Actually, Nami has been trying to figure out a way to defeat the droids as well. So if the characters step up and say OKAY, we hate droids, how can we one-up them?, that would be pretty cool. And feel productive as well.

*as long as mods are okay with this and it's not impossible, aha

Does that apply to Malnosso posts as well? Can people only access their own old posts from other muns?
wise_maiden: (all of my confusion)

[personal profile] wise_maiden 2012-02-20 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
I'd rather not, given all of the effort that went into gathering that information to begin with. It would feel like a slap in the face.

But new information would be welcome, or people just trying to learn more in general, and providing any observations from missions, (and I suppose asking what they *would* learn from particular things) and whatnot. Most things can be found in the guide at this point, anyway; just not the more in depth stuff.
