How's My Driving?

This is a crit post for both the community and game and for your characters. If you have something you'd like to see us improve upon with the game, PLEASE TELL US HERE! Anon commenting is on, but if anything gets really nasty there will be warnings and thread-freezing. This isn't required but everyone is encouraged to take advantage of the advice of your fellow players!

Just some pointers: no taking cheap shots, no dragging personal issues into things and for the love of all that is wise and great, please double check your replies and comments before posting them. Sometimes a change in phrasing can make all the difference between a helpful tone and a condescending one.

ALSO ALSO: We'd like to clarify that HMD means HMD- which means it's okay to have both good and bad crit. Some people have expressed concerns about posting good/bad crit when a character already has bad/good crit posted. We'd like to encourage you guys to do it anyway! You can drive well or badly, and even good drivers make mistakes. So give it a try \o

I can't see that helping much unless people move threads rather than continuing them from the previous post.

If people want to help, they can do so without the mods doing a thing. Move long threads to an appointment post instead.

Though really, I'd like to see the mass interaction logs be posted later in an event anyhow because they draw attention away from people's posts and make it harder for many to interact because people have to go find a thread in a post rather than just going and checking a journal. For stuff like the beach log, that's cool because everyone is in the same place, but I don't see the point of them for in general with events when it actually makes it harder for many to interact. I know some of you like them, so maybe posting them mid-event would be a fair compromise and enjoy it doesn't get too comment heavy and cause strain to servers.

AH okay so -- in this entry you can get the original background. ORIGINALLY there was just a ropes course out there. I put a link in that post to at least give an idea of what a ropes course looks like to those who may not be familiar with what that is. Jack designed it to look like ship rigging. Also, he built a tree house and there is a zip line down to the lake.

During the fairytale experiment, there were more treehouses built. I HAVE NO IDEA how many more or what they look like because that was handwaved by other players. I assume maybe half a dozen? We can say that there are rudimentary plank bridges connecting them? The treehouse Jack built originally is hidden fairly well. It's about the size of a garden shed and of solid construction.

I bet an observant character exploring the woods wouldn't have too much trouble finding these treehouses.

I'd love it for other characters to make use of the ropes course/tree village to their hearts' content. So yeah, go nuts with it!!!

Oh wow, that sounds even cooler than I'd imagined. Thank you for the reply! And the pic links! I'll definitely have Yun wander across them, then. I keep thinking it'd be a great place for a bunch of kids to go take over for the summer. Maybe even add to it, who knows!

It would involve thread-moving, yes, and people would have to be on board with that for the sake of the servers. I can see how the thread-moving would create confusion, too. Definitely.

Maybe even a general announcement of "please take them to appointments posts now" if a log gets really big, rather than opening a new log? It would have to involve player consensus of some kind. Though not every character has an appointments post.

Posting logs later in an event might help cut down on the number of people who use them vs. the journals. I know some people prefer the logs because they don't want to make a journal post for events and would rather tag around.

it would be good for that. I don't think anyone uses the treehouse village now, though Jack does use the hidden treehouse often enough.

The village is probably falling into disrepair. A good log idea would be fixing it up, maybe.

ALSO there is a rope swing into the lake, I forgot about that! lots of fun.

I've been really worried about that, actually, especially in my earlier months of playing her where her voice wasn't as strong. It got to the point where if you've (general you but you're definitely in that group) been waiting two weeks for tags I felt frankly embarrassed tagging back because I felt like such a flake.

I'm hoping this will be much less a problem now that her voice is stronger. The fault is also mine for not taking as much chances to tag you as I know I probably should, and for that I'm sorry.

Long story short, I definitely hear you and will be working hard to make this less of a problem in the future. And I'm sorry.

I do think a log later in the events would be a great idea and cut down on some of the other issues I've been seeing related to the logs. Like with this one, posting it on Tuesday or Wednesday would have been good. That way it gives a chance for people who want to make posts to do so and get attention and then those who can't think of something can tag into the log when it goes up. And then the comments are spread out more to reduce load to servers and it also helps players like me who have trouble loading the logs and can't really tag around in them much because of that.

And then otherwise moving threads should help. Even if the mods do post a second log, people would need to be on board, but it may well be easier to move to appointments posts. Overall that may be something see what others feel when the next event comes around. Who knows, DW may have the server issues resolved by the next event. I wonder if it helps at all for us to load individual threads instead of the post though, that goes much quicker and helps my own issues with loading huge posts.

You can keep long threads running as long as you access your own thread directly and not the entire entry (by clicking the page numbers). This reduces the load on the serves due to not having to load the entire page, only one thread. Unless your thread is over 1000 comments long it makes no difference to loading a thread elsewhere.

Anyway, I apologize if I've dropped tags in the last few days or haven't tagged anyone at all whatsoever -- I've been busy with real life (which yes, includes school) and it's all just been so stressful and sometimes I have to prioritize reality before roleplaying. I was a bit concerned that Beast was coming across as a little too awkward without his quick temper when I threaded with you, but I was definitely reassured that you're balancing Beast's aspects when I looked up other threads (such as when Oswald announced that he'd been spying on people to set up penpals). You're doing a great job with Beast, and I look forward to seeing him around (and interacting with him) more!

Speaking of which, I meant to have Walter show up in Beast's birthday log, but I got surprisingly busy. Now I need to find a way to get this awkward gift to Beast.

If memory serves me correctly, Sheik and Zelda are separate people with separate bodies in the manga, which I have always figured Sheik's player was taking him from. Is that not right?

Also commenting to say how much I love this suggestion, though agreeing with Zero in that I think it would mean more if it characters inside the enclosure played a hand in it.

And don't quote me on this, but I think some people already have taken apart a droid. I know Daisy grabbed one after that thing with Law (and it went to SHELL...? /unsure), though I don't know what became of it. Shikamaru also got to study them for an hour or so two Halloweens back - since he knows nothing about robotics, he's been slowly relaying everything he saw to Tony Stark in hopes he can make sense of it. So within the enclosure, people ARE working towards this. It would be awesome to see something come of it.

I respectfully disagree, fellow anon. What "isn't canon and shouldn't be taken as canon" to you might be "an alternate interpretation of canon" to others, and maybe the mods see it as such. It's not as if the manga is a fanproject and breaks the rules that way.
