AC Results / HMD

The results for the Activity Check are in. Please note that the following characters were either inactive, didn't post to the activity check, or failed to speak to a moderator about their activity. Also added were characters who have dropped recently, for your convenience.

Copy-paste the following here:

A number of you passed the activity check, but barely. (You know who you are.) Try to pick things up, as it's no fun to character-squat.

If there are any mistakes here, please let us know! Additionally, if your character was removed and you're still active, feel free to appeal to one of us about keeping your character. However, please remember next time to stay active and post to the Activity Check. Thank you!

And as always:

HMD

How's My Driving?

This is a crit post for both the community and game and for your characters. If you have something you'd like to see us improve upon with the game, PLEASE TELL US HERE! Anon commenting is on, but if anything gets really nasty there will be warnings and thread-freezing. This isn't required but everyone is encouraged to take advantage of the advice of your fellow players!

Just some pointers: no taking cheap shots, no dragging personal issues into things and for the love of all that is wise and great, please double check your replies and comments before posting them. Sometimes a change in phrasing can make all the difference between a helpful tone and a condescending one.

ALSO ALSO: We'd like to clarify that HMD means HMD- which means it's okay to have both good and bad crit. Some people have expressed concerns about posting good/bad crit when a character already has bad/good crit posted. We'd like to encourage you guys to do it anyway! You can drive well or badly, and even good drivers make mistakes. So give it a try \o

I basically agree with your points except the one about the Battle Dome. I really see the Dome as more like having a holodeck on the USS Voyager; just because they have it doesn't mean they're not still stuck impossibly far from home. Being able to see the place doesn't mean you're there (or that the simulated 'people' are your family and friends, if you can manage to program that.) It might even make things worse.

agreeing with this point! personally, i have absolutely done mini-plots with the battledome that have served to deepen my character's homesickness. enrich it, even.

I've only used the Battle Dome to spar with myself! So it's nice to hear that it is being used right, because that thread made me worried that it had become a scape goat. But that's great to hear :D thank you!

Seconding what's being said here. You can program stuff into the Battle Dome, like foes and allies, but you can't effectively give them true sentience or souls. Like for Adell, I couldn't have him program in his family or Rozalin and expect it to cure the homesickness.

In fact, as suggested, it'd only make things worse because those are nothing but hollow shells of the genuine article.

Agreed with this as well. Like Leonhardt has made one of his home, but it actually makes it worse because his home was burnt to the ground about 11 years ago. It just hits home to him how much he's lost and that he has no real home any longer and that Luceti is the closest thing to a normal life and home he's had. If anything it all is helping development, but then his life sucks and he's one of those better off in Luceti.

And honestly, without the Battle Dome to spar in, he'd have gone insane by now. He just can't live without a decent battle very well and he's a bit too powerful to be sparring with people unless they are like Adell.

/this is shikki but

I agree with all of this. I've been feeling a little too much of the action lately, not enough of the mystery and suspense. The game's undergone some changes since we started and it's no surprise that some things have shifted, but it kind of feels like right now all we're doing is going from event to event with slice of life tossed in with the occasional draft.

I'd really like to see players going back to the mallynaps having adverse affects rather than just wacky shenanigans and a chance to bring more of the darker elements back... but I also know that some people have recently begun reacting really negatively to events with dark themes, which is really disappointing to me because that was what originally drew me to the game.

I guess I'd just like to see something that shakes up the status quo or helps things get back to more of the mystery and awe that it held before.

As one of the people who've reacted negatively to events like that in the past... I feel like I should clarify that it's not the events themselves that are an issue for me so much as those darker events having had no good opt-out short of a kidnapping (like the last Halloween event) on top of not being particularly plot-relevant. I have no problem with events with dark themes so long as they're either optional or have an impact on the overall plot. Heck, I'd actually love to see events in a similar vein to some of the older ones, like the Filial Spirit possession one. Something plot-relevant that actually has an impact on stuff, basically, even if it's darker than the usual events these days.

That aside, I agree with just about everything else that's been said. This sums up the situation fairly well, I think. I don't agree with the point about the Battle Dome either, but that aside, this is... pretty much what I was considering mentioning, really.

The OP replied above by the look of it and took back the Battle Dome comment. Doesn't hurt to read other comments.

I did read the comments. That's why I said I don't agree with the point about the Battle Dome either. And just because the OP already took that back doesn't mean that others can't state that they don't agree with what they originally said - and I'm not the only one who did so after they took it back.

Okay, hi. Shikki here in the right account.

There's no need to talk like that to her. I don't know if you intended the comment to sound like that but it comes across as a little condescending. We're having a nice, friendly, constructive discussion here and if people misread, they misread! Or if they miss something too. There are a lot of comments happening really quickly so things can be missed. It's bound to happen every now and again with how strongly some people feel about things here in the game.

Sorry! It wasn't my intention to come across as rude. Please accept my apologies, I didn't realize until after I posted it and you now how you can't repost anon comments.

Hey, just as long as you apologize to the right people it's all cool by me! It happens.

OP

Hello again! I'm not on my phone now but eek, I don't want to de-anon!

But this is exactly how I feel. I'm looking at the reserves page right now and I can write off all the characters that will likely end up dropping due to the way Luceti is right now, and it's depressing. I feel the game has derived so far from the original premise that it's actually become "boring". This isn't Wonderland Wars, or Soul Campaign, this is Luceti (yes, go ahead and make Sparta jokes if you want too XD) and even though it's been running for years, there is still so much that can be done with it. It just needs to steer back to how it used to be and keep those darker elements in place.

When I joined, and I'm speaking strictly for myself here, it was because it was a "Utopia with a dark mystery behind it". But it had achieved that perfect balance of being dark without being a horror or asylum game. People had the freedom to do as they please in the village, yet Big Brother was always watching. I liked that, and I think Luceti should play to it's strengths instead of trying to compete with other roleplays. The game won't die no matter what route it takes, there will always be people who consider Luceti a home. So all we can do is place our faith in the mods and hope they can work towards something we all agree on ♥
