Activity Check Results / HMD
The results for the Activity Check are in. Please note that the following characters were either inactive, didn't post to the activity check, or failed to speak to a moderator about their activity. Also added were characters who have dropped recently, for your convenience.
Copy-paste the following here:
A number of you passed the activity check, but barely. (You know who you are.) Try to pick things up, as it's no fun to character-squat.
If there are any mistakes here, please let us know! Additionally, if your character was removed and you're still active, feel free to appeal to one of us about keeping your character. However, please remember next time to stay active and post to the Activity Check. Thank you!
And as always:
HMD
How's My Driving?
This is a crit post for both the community and game and for your characters. If you have something you'd like to see us improve upon with the game, PLEASE TELL US HERE! Anon commenting is on, but if anything gets really nasty there will be warnings and thread-freezing. This isn't required but everyone is encouraged to take advantage of the advice of your fellow players!
Just some pointers: no taking cheap shots, no dragging personal issues into things and for the love of all that is wise and great, please double check your replies and comments before posting them. Sometimes a change in phrasing can make all the difference between a helpful tone and a condescending one.
ALSO ALSO: We'd like to clarify that HMD means HMD- which means it's okay to have both good and bad crit. Some people have expressed concerns about posting good/bad crit when a character already has bad/good crit posted. We'd like to encourage you guys to do it anyway! You can drive well or badly, and even good drivers make mistakes. So give it a try \o

(Anonymous) 2012-06-20 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)Honestly, I could be wrong here, so if I am please tell me, because it's sort of been making me wonder.

And I am trying to make a point of him being gruff but oddly polite. Remember, however, that he was also helping humans because of the imbalance of Simon's government just before this. In a wierd way? The Malnosso are not dissimilar from the conditions of his world.
Thank you for pointing that out, however. That's been the first real crit I've recieved during my time here. Do you have suggestions on how I can balance this better?

(Anonymous) 2012-06-22 02:48 am (UTC)(link)I think the issue is that you're going a little too far in keeping him polite. I mean, helping people who are being persecuted is one thing, but that doesn't mean you have to, oh, help them carry packages or invite them to dinner. There's a difference between "helping" on a large scale, with a group that remains mostly faceless, and playing Good Samaritan for individual people, if that makes sense? Or in helping someone who asks for it as opposed to offering his aid.
I wouldn't expect him to go around just growling at people, but I think maybe if you toned down the friendliness a little? As I recall he was generally sort of unapproachable and snarky, but not outright hostile.

The only other occassions we see him out of combat are during his time with the Human Eradication Forces, where he was distantly polite to an almost absurd level, and in prison where he was exceedingly bitter and taking his anger out on the others around him--particularly Simon.
Here in Luceti several of those reasons are taken away, and it should be pointed out that he's not here to make enemies. He could have broken out of the Prison at any point during his stay (and, in Lagann-hen, did so to protect Simon from an aggressive Antispiral!Nia) but willingly chooses not to because all he faces is more combat that he cannot win. Should he end up with enemies here in Luceti, it would be the same exact situation, only worse. The people that die here don't stay dead. It would literally be combat for eternity.
I will take the suggestions into account however, and try to incorporate them. Frankly? The people who have earned his snark thus far are the people he moderately likes. Which...is also an indicator of the little bit we see of his interactions in canon. Unfortunately, there's only 3 people he actually thinks are moderately okay, and all of those are due to Shift influences.
Thank you once again--that was a helpful pointer.
