Activity Check Results / HMD

The results for the Activity Check are in. Please note that the following characters were either inactive, didn't post to the activity check, or failed to speak to a moderator about their activity. Also added were characters who have dropped recently, for your convenience.

Copy-paste the following here:

A number of you passed the activity check, but barely. (You know who you are.) Try to pick things up, as it's no fun to character-squat.

If there are any mistakes here, please let us know! Additionally, if your character was removed and you're still active, feel free to appeal to one of us about keeping your character. However, please remember next time to stay active and post to the Activity Check. Thank you!

And as always:

HMD

How's My Driving?

This is a crit post for both the community and game and for your characters. If you have something you'd like to see us improve upon with the game, PLEASE TELL US HERE! Anon commenting is on, but if anything gets really nasty there will be warnings and thread-freezing. This isn't required but everyone is encouraged to take advantage of the advice of your fellow players!

Just some pointers: no taking cheap shots, no dragging personal issues into things and for the love of all that is wise and great, please double check your replies and comments before posting them. Sometimes a change in phrasing can make all the difference between a helpful tone and a condescending one.

ALSO ALSO: We'd like to clarify that HMD means HMD- which means it's okay to have both good and bad crit. Some people have expressed concerns about posting good/bad crit when a character already has bad/good crit posted. We'd like to encourage you guys to do it anyway! You can drive well or badly, and even good drivers make mistakes. So give it a try \o

dear masa. at long last, you get to be the recipient of one of my 'welcome to the cast' hmd messages.

this past app cycle, i finally roped you into one of my casts. first of all, i want to tell you how excited i am to have you with us in the btvs crew. before now, i certainly valued and enjoyed your commentary as you first watched the show; now, i value and enjoy your contribution as an rper.

it's not a simple canon to app from and of all the characters you could have picked, you went with one of the more convulted, complex, and melodramatic of them all. but from inception to voice-testing to our most recent body-swap plot, i've been on board with the choices you've made for spike. you're hitting just the right note of keeping him independent and self-assured in his role as a champion without ignoring the fact that he also quite often hangs his hopes, cares, and dreams on the shoulders of other people. the conflict between these two aspects of spike's characterization shows up in btvs's visual cues but you portray this emotional conflict within your tags with a stark and effective clarity.

most importantly, i have fun when we tag. and now -- with spike -- i don't end up feeling daunted by the history and baggage our characters share. you're very reasonable to work things out with oocly. for example, you have no idea how spectacular it is that you suggested all on your own that an otherwise potentially cool plot left buffy too 'damselly'. you very often (if not always) have your eye on how to benefit the person you're tagging with; in this way, you're a very generous person when it comes to threading.

your spike voice is crisp and on-point. your sokka is always the definitive rp sokka for me. i don't know your other characters' canons so you'll just have to deal with me ignoring them. but i'll lastly add that i'm always delighted by how you tailor even your character's vocal patterns to how they're developing in luceti: spike's ironic use of the 'bird' endearment is one fine example of this.

i probably have more to say but i think i'm gonna ease off and save any specifics for private conversation. but consider this the official two-month extension of my castemately open arms. i feel quite fortunate to have you with us.

Masa,

I just wanted to say that I am incredibly happy to have CR with you. I have always admired your characters from afar, so it's wonderful to have the opportunity to actually play off of them.

I'm not as familiar with Ling (it's been ages since I watched Fullmetal, and I still haven't watched Brotherhood), but Sokka, Wolverine, and Spike are all spot on. I really admire the way you can take such a diverse cast with very distinctive speaking styles and bring all of them to life.

On a final note....I just want to say thanks for how patient you've been with my sporadic activity. It's not fair to you or Aly, waiting as long as you have to on tags, sometimes...but the patience has meant the world. And, if you ever need a tag sped up, please let me know. I can't promise consistency, but I definitely don't want to get in the way of your playing.

Hey, it's been fine. I'm happy whenever I get Kyra tags and honestly I'm sometimes inclined to let my tags sit. I've been so glad to finally get CR with you again (since the last time was Jack Horner I think? And an attempt with Arthur), so I don't mind waiting.

I hope this isn't too weird because we've never played, but I've staked a few of your threads with both Spike and Wolverine and I just wanted to say you've got pretty amazing voices for both of them. Spike is especially fun to read; I think you've got his dialect down-pat, and he's hilarious to boot.

I don't have any crit, I just wanted to say I'm enjoying yours a lot. So yeah, stay awesome. :|b

Hey, thanks. I'm glad they're living up to your expectations.

Speaking of Wolvie, since he hasn't tagged Bucky yet, I should throw this at you: In his canon, he worked with Captain America, but Bucky and Cap's band of badasses are never mentioned. However, I sort of like to think he ran with them anyway. Which means he's probably met a different version of Bucky. Though possibly one more inclined towards wearing tights and a domino mask. (Though not necessarily! I have flexibility in headcanoning on what this Bucky was like.)

On top of that, I had Logan go through an AU where he existed in the MCU. In it he worked with Steve Rogers and later became an agent of SHIELD. Consequently, he would have vague-ish memories of this Bucky. Which I don't like to force on MCU folk because that's not fair. But if you want to play with any of that, we could make it a thing.
jamesbarnes: ([steve] you thinking what I'm thinking)

[personal profile] jamesbarnes 2012-10-20 06:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, this is interesting. I'm totally okay with him knowing either version, tights or no tights. They're essentially the same character at that point but 616!Bucky has a drastically different past and skillset, and was much younger when he ran with Cap (in his early teens as opposed to 21) so it really depends on which would give us a more interesting relationship to work with on that front.

I'm also good with him knowing this Bucky from the MCU AU you played. They've got a snarky bromance in 616, so it might have played out along those lines as far as how they related/relate to each other in his memories but I'm really open to anything you have in mind, just tossing out ideas. I'd love to make this a thing.

I may go with a more classical Bucky in his universe. Just for the fun contrast. Especially with what looks like a potential granddaughter(!) for Bucky on the Test Drive meme.
