Activity Check Results / HMD

The results for the Activity Check are in. Please note that the following characters were either inactive, didn't post to the activity check, or failed to speak to a moderator about their activity. Also added were characters who have dropped recently, for your convenience.

Copy-paste the following here:

A number of you passed the activity check, but barely. (You know who you are.) Try to pick things up, as it's no fun to character-squat.

If there are any mistakes here, please let us know! Additionally, if your character was removed and you're still active, feel free to appeal to one of us about keeping your character. However, please remember next time to stay active and post to the Activity Check. Thank you!

And as always:

HMD

How's My Driving?

This is a crit post for both the community and game and for your characters. If you have something you'd like to see us improve upon with the game, PLEASE TELL US HERE! Anon commenting is on, but if anything gets really nasty there will be warnings and thread-freezing. This isn't required but everyone is encouraged to take advantage of the advice of your fellow players!

Just some pointers: no taking cheap shots, no dragging personal issues into things and for the love of all that is wise and great, please double check your replies and comments before posting them. Sometimes a change in phrasing can make all the difference between a helpful tone and a condescending one.

ALSO ALSO: We'd like to clarify that HMD means HMD- which means it's okay to have both good and bad crit. Some people have expressed concerns about posting good/bad crit when a character already has bad/good crit posted. We'd like to encourage you guys to do it anyway! You can drive well or badly, and even good drivers make mistakes. So give it a try \o

Taka I really appreciate having you as a castmate; we've had some really fun threads and I'm glad that you've been around and are drawing others into that cast recently, too. I know you've been going through some rough times recently as well, so I hope this doesn't come across as too harsh. However, I have to agree with what Zero commented on up there; Souji's mood is coming across as unusually dark and has been for a while.

This is something I noticed in your previous stay as well, but you like to throw him into dramatic situations. This isn't bad in and of itself; drama is the spice of RP. However, P4 is essentially a light-hearted game despite the murders. The sadness is balanced with humor and slice-of-life, and I haven't been seeing that very much with Souji recently. I feel like you've had him dwell on negativity so much that it drowns out his other character traits.

One example of this recently was with the incident with the Kin'corran refugees. I found it odd that Minato had to remind him about keeping hope and remembering bonds, when that was a theme of his own game as well. The whole you aren't alone, you always have friends who will support and accept you... It's true that we don't get to see Souji's reaction to being apart from the good friends he's made, but he's confident enough to leave them at the end of the year, and we see he hasn't fallen apart when he comes back in Arena. Different situations, of course, but Souji is a protagonist who bounces back.

Take the scene in the hospital with Namatame. He was heartbroken and angry and upset but he was still clear-headed enough to prevent Yosuke and the others from making a terrible mistake and murdering an innocent person out of revenge. In the true ending he endured his friends being trapped by Izanami one by one and still was able to overcome her abilities and see the truth. He's a strong person with a lot of Courage, Understanding, and Expression and he should be able to step over obstacles and be a leader to the friends he does have in Luceti, old ones and new ones. He's not a perfect person and him being upset is understandable. I agree, for example, that the Kin'corran children would have affected him. But he is not an angsty character and you've been showcasing his negative emotions a lot, recently.

Basically what I'm saying here, Taka, is, let him cheer up. Let Souji be the good friend, dependable leader, and the confident, charming and a little bit trolly person we see through his actions in the games. I know you can do this. You've been a very consistent player. But I think you should step back a little from the angst, review Souji's character at its core (Arena really helps with this, a lot) and get him to a place where he's confident in himself again, as he ought to be. I think you'll have more fun with both him and the game that way, too.

I'm afraid without P4 Arena I can't quite do that just yet; I'm getting around to it, though, and I'm well aware that he's been hitting a real low point as of late, emotionally.

He'll bounce back, rest assured of it. He's no ordinary Fool, after all.
