You guys ready for more?

August 9th. It's been a few days since the earthquake, while everyone is still recovering from the disaster, the barrier finally stops flickering. Then it darkens, the clouds a dull grey, the sun turning as black as an eclipse. A pale ring of light shines around it, but only enough to make day seem lit by a full moon. And at night, the real moon shines bloody red.

And the next day the sky seems to explode, giving Luceti the wonderful gift of a rain of monsters falling from the black sun.

All those people who wanted summons? Surprise! The summoning monsters, creatures, demons, and various other entities from all different worlds are coming to visit. The only problem is it's not a courtesy call. Torn from their home dimensions, the summons are violent, angry, and feeling rather confused about what's going on. That means they'll be game to wreck havoc on the village and surrounding area. Some will be easily tamed, but most are wild and uncontrolled, a danger to everyone around them. They can be defeated or even banished, if one has the willpower to conquer them, but it won't be easy for anyone. Tamed summons can be used to fight against others, or you could just keep them around like pet dogs. Really big, ornery, elemental pet dogs.

Time to play dogcatcher, kids!

Extra Info:

- non-summoners can still be involved! As mentioned above, the summons will be especially vulnerable to strong willpower, and it's a known fact that those in Luceti have plenty of that. Anyone will a good connection with the Luceti summon spirits will have a higher chance of taming a summon. It can be done with violence or just really, really good reasoning. Be creative and take the summon/monster/whatnot you're dealing with into consideration!

- characters aren't restricted to their own canons in this. A Final Fantasy character could bond with a Persona. A Persona character could tame or defeat one of Sheena's summons. Feel free to branch out.

- In addition to that, numerous versions of the same summon can possibly show up, depending on the version. Ifrit from FFVII is pretty different from the Ifrit of FFX, for example, and the way they're used is also different. Persona from P3 work differently than those in P4. Stuff like that.

- Speaking of methods of use, they can show up as well. Someone could find summoning materia, the SEES guns, etc. The summons/demons/whatnot can still be out and about, but you'll want to be able to use them after you tame them, right?

- The definition of "summon" can be sort of broad, and for the sake of creativity I'm cool with expanding it to include more unusual things. For example, pulling in a bunch of Legendary Pokemon to kick the village's ass would be kind of sweet 8| If you're not sure about what counts, feel free to ask.

- If your character gets killed, Death Penalties still apply. However, the amount of time that passes before they return and the number of penalties is all out of whack. A character could return in three days- blind, with no memory and a dysfunctional left arm. They could return in eight days with seemingly no penalty whatsoever. The earlier they return, the more penalties they have, and vice-versa. By the end of the event, they should end up with just one penalty, though. The penalty they finish with should be the one approved by a mod beforehand. o/

- No, you won't be able to keep your epic monster pets after the event is over :| Sorry guys, enjoy it while you've got it. All summoning/controlling tools will disappear with them after it's over.

This part of the event runs from 12:01 PM (the afternoon!) on August 9th to 11:59 PM on the 14th.

QUESTIONS GO HEEEEEERE.

As an addendum: John is tucked away in the barracks storage area, and there's been talk of the Justice League (since Wonder Woman helped to find him) sort of guarding him in case anyone finds out he's there and gets some violent urges, since plenty of characters would just love to give the Malnosso a good punch or two. His being there hasn't been announced, but I'm not sure how widespread the information is. I've tried to get some ideas on how his presence has been dealt with and haven't gotten much feedback, so- if you guys have thoughts on the matter, now would be a good time to help me out with that!

This looks like so much fun. Never mind I am slightly less than well-versed (read: almost not versed at all XD) in canons that include summons.

Hitsugaya's already got a not-quite summon/partner spirit/great destructive ice dragon of his own, so I doubt he'll be much for taming and keeping things. (Banishing and defeating? Yes please.) He'll definitely want to be a hero-type though, especially with the power cap gone -- Luceti's severely restricted his powers.

Learn to HTML, Kel.

/wrong journal forever.

So I'm pretty sure that Heartless/Nobodies and the Noise fall under the category of monsters/summons that can be roaming around (though correct me if I'm wrong on that), but in the same vein as Legendary Pokemon, do like...the Dark Masters from the Digimon canon count? I'm not sure where they'd qualify, so asking.

Aha, I've probably opened up a huge can of worms by mentioning Pokemon, haven't I? I guess if they qualify, similar genres would as well.

I love this event and want to do its laundry. *o*/

GUYS. GUYS. What's the weakest summon in your canons? XD Hisoka here has been itching for YEARS to grab a summoned beast to call his very own but is canonically unable to tame anything more powerful than a potted cactus (http://www.livejournal.com/allpics.bml?user=cacto_ocupado). I wish to piss him off in a similar way here. xD

ALSO ALSO I can't explain why but think it might be hilarious for PotterHouse to be assaulted by a killer unicorn (http://www.videogamesprites.net/FinalFantasy6/NPCs/Nonhuman/Kirin%20-%20Summon.gif). Y/Y? :D

A DoReMi elf from Suikoden canon. They actually can fall into the realms of summons since there was a rune for them in V and individually, they are pretty pathetic monsters that try and sing people to death (and it usually does little damage). But if Hisoka gets a group of about six of them, they actually could get rather vicious with their combine attack.

Also I know we were thinking in a meme at some point to have Yuber accidentally summon a furfur which is basically a violent ball of fur that is also cute. That doesn't normally fall into his realm to summon, but about any monster in Suikoden canon could technically count as a summons with the way summons there work. I can definitely think of some more random weak joke monsters that could work if you want them. Like flying caped squirrels for instance. They actually are monsters and can be tamed by certain creatures in the canon, so that could work too.

Erza's the only one of my characters with summons in their canon (unless you count ARGHL BLARGHL RANDOM PSYCHIC DEMON SQUID (http://watchmen.wikia.com/wiki/Alien_Monster) as a summon, but I wouldn't), and the weakest one is Plue (http://fairytail.wikia.com/wiki/Nikora), a small snowman-like creature which acts like a dog and has no combat abilities whatsoever. Summons from Fairy Tail's canon are divided into two categories - Gold and Silver. The Gold summons are extremely powerful offensive types, while the Silver summons range from support (shielding) to complete uselessness (singing).

If you want, I have icons of said same elves? Since I'm plotting to troll Frey with them or some of his buddies.

I'm going to have Rydia chase after and tame Mist Dragon, but I would also love for Cecil to see the dragon too, if only for the GUILT that would follow.

Okay, I'm pretty sure I could just use my judgment here, but just to be safe:

In Tales of Legendia, does the fact that Nerifes occasionally brings gaets out to fight the party make those gaets count as "summonable?" (If you want me to explain further my reasoning, let me know.)

(Unrelated: I just realized that Fenimore could possibly have noticed John in the barracks since I finally threw her into working there, but she probably would think he was just an odd resident of the village who's "friends" [the Justice League] like to dress in odd costumes. This has nothing to do with anything and Bones's attempt to keep the information under wraps means that she might not know at all, but it amuses me.)

I've got a question. If the GFs from FFVIII were to show up, what are the chances of draw points showing up as well?

Holy crap, I can't let either of my characters miss this event.

*PM's Grell-mun to hold off on mini-personal plot*

[identity profile] vulcanblazer.livejournal.com 2010-08-08 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Guess I might as well ask this too, even though I posted earlier. Meowzy brought up a question I'd like to ask. The "summonability" of these creatures is very questionable, so I wanted to clear it before I got too involved with the idea.

Prinnies. Everyone's favorite cannon fodder in Disgaea. Would it be possible for these lovable losers to appear as well? They can technically be tamed, most likely by threatening them with violence, and they're usually in the service of someone, like a summon. They're not particularly strong, generally.

Etna can summon and use them as glorified penguin bombs as one of her special attacks, but there's no other record of anyone else doing it, so that's why I'm asking if it'd be cool or not.

[identity profile] im-the-cute-one.livejournal.com 2010-08-09 05:11 am (UTC)(link)
It's always been my understanding that Etna doesn't summon them out of nowhere; she just has a large number of them offscreen. But if it does count as a summon, fufufu. I'll be keeping that in mind.

Question~! If our character were to tame a summon that has a revival spell in its arsenal, would we be able to use it? Like, would the DP still apply, but just the turnaround would be quicker, or would it just be banned entirely?

'Cause I'm seriously considering a Megaten demon with Recarm and I just want to make sure it wouldn't get in the way at all. XD;

[personal profile] corrinesbell 2010-08-08 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Question! Just to add to your pile, and it might be somewhere else but lj and the internet are having a fight:

Would summons that function like the ones in Symphonia do - manifestations of power, not technically physical beings - become more physical in this event? Like, you can't really bring down a giant ball of lightning that is just plain ol' lightning, or kick the butt of something made entirely of mana...idk if I'm explaining myself well.
fortunefail: (Inventing manafriendly Rheairds)

[personal profile] fortunefail 2010-08-08 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
But Vil, the spirits are sort of physical. After all, Efreet has enough physical form to pick characters up by their throats. That Sylph girl with the shield has enough physical form to slam into characters. And so on and so forth. I think if you were to try and touch them, your hand wouldn't go through them.

Just... yeah.

Simba is a summon in KH.

Now imagine Simba rampaging through Luceti and/or attacking Scar.

*Wishes she played her hunter belf here. ANGRY LEVEL 80 SPRINGPAW LYNX WITH ALL THE TOYS FTW* XD

Also, is this limited to anime/video games? (Thunderbirds...cool critters...but they aren't exactly summoned so much as drawn to an area by Teh Ebil).

...Although in that case, there's always Rahmu or Quezacotl.

(PS: If anyone is stuck for a summons, I have almost all of the FF guide books; I could certainly list a few out if it comes to that, including quite a few that many folks have probably forgotten about.)

Well, helloooooooooo, plotty goodness!

This looks brilliant, and I am going to just throw out a general call for help here - much as I'd love to get my characters involved in this, I am totally unfamiliar with summons of any kind. Anyone got any idea of what might be an interesting match for this girl here? She's definitely got the will power to tame one and has been missing a pet.

Leviathan (http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Esper_%28Final_Fantasy_VI%29) might be a good one for Katara? He's a water-element summon and his attack is called Tidal Wave, so.....
