Ugh, don't you hate tourists?

Hey everyone, time to get some event stuff going on. Before that, one quick announcement. So this last mission I outsourced a bit of help in coming up with the mission as well as getting it moving. Even writing up parts of it! This help has been from Aly, who plays Buffy Summers and Richard Sharpe. In light of that, she's now agreed to come on board the mod team to help out with all sorts of things.

So everyone give a welcome to Aly! Look, look. She has a mod icon too. Isn't that cool?

Oh yeah, also the weather calendar has been moved here. This also includes missions and events already announced, as well as player plots that you’ve previously arranged with the mods. Many of you have probably already seen this, but if not: here it is!

Okay, moving on ahead. Time for an event. This is going to be a little different than what we've done in the past. So here we go. Let's start with some background.

One thing that has become more and more obvious as the layers of the world are unraveled is that Luceti is not alone out there. Not only is there a big world out there, but other enclosures like this one also exist out there. Already one of these enclosures was visited on a previous mission, in a place called Segretar. On the last draft, volunteers from all different enclosures joined in the battle as well. It's a struggle out there and Luceti isn't the only one fighting! Or the only one under risk of attack.

Another enclosure, known as Kin’cora, has been attacked by the cultists. Their barrier was disrupted and much of the population was either captured for sacrifice or outright killed. The Malnosso launched a counterattack, but they were only able to save a little over half of the population. But with the enclosure utterly wrecked, the survivors need to be put somewhere before they can be properly dispensed to other locations. As it turns out, Luceti is the enclosure closest to them. So for a week, Luceti will be playing host to a group of refugees. A lot of refugees. Just over three hundred of them, in fact.

So what does this mean? Things are going to get crowded. Currently there are over 500 empty rooms in the remaining houses and apartments not yet occupied (that’s nine houses and 171 apartments). But like people in Luceti, these people aren't exactly going to want to just live with ANYONE. So all of these empty places will fill up rapidly. Some of these people may be left without places to stay on top of it. However, things don't end there. Because the cultists are on a major offensive, Luceti will be having its own difficulties on top of it. These include:

  • A drought. This past month has already been a hot one with little rain. By now Luceti is pretty dry. Some areas may even be in danger of wild fire.
  • Limited food supplies. Once the current supply of food in the grocery is used up, everyone in Luceti will have to make do with basic rations. Just enough to keep people fed, but only if people don't take more than their fair share. They aren't completely out of luck, though. Some crops on the farm may be ready for harvest. There's fish in the lakes and game in the woods. We won't starve, but making do will be tough.
  • Intermittent power. The Shifts keeping the water running, the electricity going, and the buildings repairing? Well they may not consistently work the entire time. Most of the time will be a brownout, with a decrease in the power output of electricity, with infrequent blackouts at other times. The water will be running, but it's being overtaxed and may sometimes come out as a slow drip. The buildings will still self-repair, but it may take several days for just a simple hole in the wall to seal itself up.
  • Normally there are trashbins that you can dump your stuff in. The stuff will eventually vanish as the Malnosso use a Shift to collect it. Well, that won't be happening during this week. So junk will start piling up pretty quickly.
  • Other stores that usually get in new supplies via the Malnosso will be cut off for the week. That means no new stuff in the general store, no new clothes, no new materials or weapons in the smithy, and so on.

Citing safety concerns, the Malnosso have raised the power cap inside of Luceti, cranking it up to 90% power dampening. While people will still be able to use or possess special powers, it will be in a much more diminished fashion than the normal 50%. How exactly this affects your character is at player discretion, but it should not be enough to be debilitating for anyone. Unless, of course, you really want it to be.

So how do we handle the NPCs? Well, first off, they will not be played by us mods. All interactions can be handwaved. However, you can have NPCs in your threads. It just means you have to play them out as an additional person in your threads. This does not mean making accounts for them! Feel free to get creative, give them names, or link a picture of what they might look like. While they don’t need to be deep characters, it’s okay to give them a little personality and assign a world that they’re from. Small touches. You can control this NPC in interactions with your character or allow other people to take control of them too.

Here’s an idea of what these NPCs are like:

  • These villagers are from a place called Kin’cora. For those of you who are Luceti veterans, this village is much like what Luceti was when the game first started. Imagine current Luceti, now take away the electricity. Only four community buildings, each one five stories high. No battle dome, none of the custom built buildings, and only the most basic of shops. Their barrier is much smaller, encompassing an area of the forest and not expanding to where the mountains would lie. For a place that used to house five hundred people, it wasn’t too spacious.
  • Their enclosure is only nine months old and thus most of the population has been in this world for less than six months. They have been subjected to some brutal Malnosso experiments. Their only interactions with the Malnosso have been through the gleeful gloating of Count Zompano. They have had no previous drafts or missions, leaving them utterly ignorant of the outside world. Aside from the soldiers that rescued them, the people of Luceti will be their first time interacting with anybody with knowledge of what the world is like.
  • Due to their situation, these villagers are highly suspicious and a touch paranoid. While to some extent they will be grateful for help provided by Lucetians, many of them will suspect them of being in league with the Malnosso. Even if the situation is explained, they’ll inevitably be envious and resentful of the better treatment and enclosure afforded to Luceti.
  • There will be a large assortment of people in this village. Men, women, and children. Most of them unrelated to each other and not quite as bonded as they could be. Many of them are fighters, some of them being skilled enough to match people in Luceti in both ability and powers. In light of the situation, some of them may become violent or form gangs. There may be instances of food hoarding, theft, and outright fighting amongst themselves and against Lucetians.
  • As before with other NPCs, these people may come from the same worlds as people in Luceti. None of them will be appable characters. Most of them will be complete strangers to everyone, even though there is the possibility that one of them may be someone from Earth who is a big fan of Captain America. However, if you like, there can be NPCs your characters may know. Just not people they would have a close relationship to. Examples of this might be one of Ling Yao’s clansmen, one of Haruhi Suzumiya’s former classmates, a vampire mook that Buffy Summers previously dusted, or a marine who sailed with Horatio Hornblower. These are completely made up characters and aren’t meant to be fleshed out. But they do give the situation a ‘close to home’ vibe.

We’ll provide some snippets of NPC dialog later for those who don’t want to really bother interacting with them, but want to get an idea of what they’re like.

One note about this event is that we want player participation. This is a good opportunity to come up with player plots to work within the event itself. We’ve never had NPCs like this in the game and there’s a chance we never will again, so feel free to be creative. Maybe your character can start a temporary orphanage for the parentless children, maybe the Blue Rogues need to be on patrol to break up fights, setting up more space for the injured to be tended to, an attempt at harvesting food at the farm, or there could be an attempt to bring down a ringleader of a gang who is trying to get more than their fair share of the supplies.

So here’s a timeline of events:

23rd - This is the last day for supplies to arrive in the stores. (This includes the vending machines in the Dome).
25th - An announcement will be made about incoming refugees and the change in power dampening. They will arrive six hours later from the south.
27th - The village will start experiencing power fluctuations (electricity, water, self-repairs). The Battle Dome’s scenario chambers will power down for the remainder of the event.
31st - After a hard week, the villagers will be escorted to the tunnel teleporter to be placed in other enclosures. Those who resist will be collected by standard droids.

Feel free to ask questions in the mod comment below. The rest of the post can be used for plotting, which we strongly encourage you to do!

    Eeeeeeee yessssssss let's plot!

    [personal profile] corrinesbell 2012-08-21 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
This is exciting! I am full of bursting-out ideas right now but here's what specifically pings me:

    - The idea of an orphanage for the parentless kids. Anyone want in on this? Would love to have it happen.
    - Something like...hmm, rival gangs? A Luceti gang forming to try to outpace the KC folks. We have the mobster types around here, do we not? Or even ones who are hungry and willing to brawl for their dinner?
    - Concurrent with that, even though it would have to come together kind of fast, a combined effort to keep things "safe and not dangerous" in the village - guards on the food and water we have left, and so forth.

Chinhands let's see what other ideas we all have!

Cloud Nine, the Bakery, and Tori's characters: The Plotz

    [personal profile] simplestgift 2012-08-21 06:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Cloud Nine will temporarily be turned into a sort of inn, and Archie will be collecting bedrolls etc. for refugee use. The kitchens will be active, but as the food shortage goes on, it'll become more like a homeless shelter than an inn. Either way, it's a place for people to sleep if they have nowhere else to go.

Toward the end of the week, the club will be raided for food, resulting in violence and vandalism (some refugees think the Lucetians are holding back, apparently). This can be broken up by the Blue Rogues or another group.

The bakery will continue business almost as normal, except toward the end of the event, no sweets will be made. This is in order to save flour for bread. Yeast will probably run out before the end of the week, so after a few substitutes are tried, the staple is probably going to be flatbread and drop biscuits. Any seeds or nuts foraged from the woods would be useful here. Peeta grew up helping to run a bakery in a very poor district, so he'll manage to keep things running, at least.

Gregor will lend a hand where he can, quietly. If there's a town meeting, he'll be there. Managing domestic crises like this is part of his life back home, but people are likely to beat him to the punch for ideas (his would mostly involve the rationing of supplies and food, as well as putting people places such as empty rooms in occupied houses), so he'll mostly be a sort of mute helper. Also, the large stable will be built by then, and since there'll only be one or two horses in it by that point, the rest can be used for storage of rationed supplies.

    Awriiiiight. Just an initial thought--

GARBAGE? Maybe after a few days of noticing that the garbage isn't taking care of itself there should be some sort of group effort to keep the place from smelling and attracting cockroaches. Like separating recyclables/non-burnable/burnable stuff? And then there could be a daily bonfire out in the woods every night...

Congratulations, Aly! I know you'll make a grand addition to the mod team.

(No plotting from me just yet, since I need to get back to working. But based on my estimations on when I will be getting unbusy enough to come back, it's quite possible that Fenimore is going to return from a month of cargo-loading right in the middle of the refugees settling in. The thought amuses me.)

    DECREASE IN ELECTRICITY, YOU SAY?

    [personal profile] i_am_not_cute 2012-08-21 06:30 pm (UTC)(link)
'Sup, Luceti, here's your human electrical generator. :|b Though...I think the increase in the power cap is likely to fuck with the potency of her electricity. But she can still generate and sustain it! I imagine she'd need someone on guard to keep her fueled though.

Also, the idea of trying to break up and moderate fights between Lucetians and Kin'corans sounds like a job for Superman Dragon Kid and Wild Tiger! Let's get our Hero on, Ashlee. (Or we can team up with the Blue Rogues, since I think Pao-Lin's a part of them.)

I'm also wavering on the line of dragging in an NPC from Pao-Lin's past before she went to Sternbild and became a Hero. They'd probably be either a former neighbor kid or a former classmate, but either way -- they're going to remember a distinctly less happy and slightly more delinquent-ish Pao-Lin, and Pao-Lin herself isn't going to be happy to see them either. This last plot point is a little more tentative that the first two, because 1) RP MOTIVATION, WHAT, and 2) Pao-Lin's pre-Sternbild backstory is pretty much entirely headcanon and there are some things I haven't figured out yet. Still, if any of her CR wants to get in on this somehow (what do you mean, Pao-Lin wasn't always smiley happy glutton?!), we can work something out?

    [personal profile] trueknight 2012-08-21 06:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh wow this looks beautiful. But uh, yes, for my two --

Yuri is going to be doing Brave Vesperia stuff - most likely in overdrive. They also serve as back-up for the Rogues, and since they're actually bigger than the Rogues now, they'll likely be acting as equals rather than back-up for this. Y'know, when things start going south. So yeah, BV members, please lemme know what you're gonna be doing and such so I don't make any branching assumptions about what's going on there :|b !!

Rorona will be panicking and being silly, but she'll also make supplies for Lucetians who may need them (healing items and bombs, mostly - she'd be too wary about getting side-eyed if she made pies). So if anyone wants to do something with that, lemme know /o

    First things first--congratulations, Aly! ♥

Second: Soooooooo Grune is definitely going to try to be Mommy to every single lost kid that turns up in Luceti. Housemates, you're going to have to pretty much be constantly on your guard or that proposed orphanage? Will be House 34.

I can foresee her getting in trouble with the rougher KC elements, because she'll definitely be trying to operate...well, exactly the same way she always does. Anyone up for bailing her out at some point?

as said above, i would love to have sharpe organize or be part of organizing security details for stock-piled supplies or perhaps even gathered harvests. he spent a few years slumming it as an army quartermaster so he's very familiar with all the ways people might try and skim off the top or steal. anyone interested in joining him?

as for buffy! well -- she won't like being more power-capped again but she'll probably be entertaining luceti's guests at the bar. rationing out the good stuff to those who need a pick me up. perhaps we should plan a mass bar thread? especially during a power cut or something...with candles and songs and a morale-booster? maybe with some really cool npc story-time stuff from the visitors?

and also? hi guys. i really hope to serve you well in this endeavour. : D

    Congrats Aly!

As for my two: Katniss pretty much grew up in conditions like this, so it's not going to bother her much at all. She'll probably increase the amount of time spent hunting, fishing, and harvesting in the forest and try to increase her take. Excess meat and plants that she and Peeta don't need will be dropped off at the grocery store.

I... don't really have any plans for Brennan. If anybody wants her for anything, I'm open to ideas.

So it hasn't been added to the map yet, but there is an art gallery across from House 39/to the left of CH4. Pepper will be putting this up as a place for people to stay. She'll also volunteer to help with whatever organization people need her to do, because she's good at that.

For House 49, Pepper and Tony won't be willing to host total strangers, because Tony's armor is there. However, they will host people they know! So...an excuse for Avengers Mansion? :D

Amelia is not in a good place emotionally, but if someone needs her, she'll step up to help. Her primary concern is going to be her close cr, however, because of the recent loss.

    Open for plotting whatever! :D

How Lestrade will be wishing for a police force right about now 8|

No concrete plans for him as of yet- he's likely to be making his rounds trying to help keep things organized and calm. Probably swearing a lot if gang activity starts coming into play. Haha he likes to be able to help and ask questions during times like these so he'll likely as not end up high-strung and over ALLLLL the bullshit or something along those lines. Always open to discuss shenanigans.

    Congratulations, Aly!

This is pretty important for anyone who uses them, so... During the event, the teleporters and electricity in the rec center and barracks will not work! Leon will probably be able to rework the electricity symbols in the rec center and barracks to provide some lighting, but power will short out if the symbol is overworked.

So Leon will be running around trying to take care of those things and generally being annoyed by the sudden dampening of his power. He'll definitely be open to helping with other things, too.

Albert will help out in the Welcome Center and the tea shop, since they're in the same building. Otherwise he'll be observing the chaos, talking to the refugees, and doing his own thing.

Oh. And I was thinking of him running into a Harmonian soldier from between the Flame Champion Hideaway reveal and the end of the Sindar ceremonial site events. That could be fun.

Walter... Uh. He will make it his responsibility to ensure that his household has enough food for the week. So he may be out in the forests or by rivers and lake even more so than usual.

Definitely open for more plotting, of course!

... so Gai is no stranger to this sort of thing, and as such he will probably try to get some sort of organization going to ration supplies/protect them, help keep violence down, etc. And with the power cap up at 90%, he's going to be looking mainly for people who can handle themselves without the need for powers, aka Badass Normals.

People with law enforcement/military experience will be especially wanted for obvious reasons. LET'S ORGANIZE SOMETHING, GUYS.

    Congratulations, Aly!!

And as for Sanji here, the moment it becomes apparent that supplies are thin, he'll crack down pretty hard on Seventh Heaven rations. Since he starved as a kid, he has rather ~strong feelings~ about this sort of thing >_> I'm thinking no one gets more than three basic meals if they come into the restaurant (covering breakfast, lunch, dinner, for those who can't or don't want to cook for themselves). No frills, nothing extravagant - it'll still taste delicious but the meals will be designed to feed as many people as possible, not impress the populace.

He'd also like to work in conjunction with whoever is looking after the grocery, the farmlands, etc, since... well, there's zero guarantee everyone will just nod their heads and decide "OH SURE I will only take exactly what a need, nothing more than that." Better to be prepared for a few hoarders than assume the best of everyone.

Kin'corans will of course be fed, too, and he might ask for volunteers to forage for supplies. Maybe poke Applejack about her farmlands. IDEK he just wants to turn Seventh Heaven into a soup kitchen, essentially, if that sounds like something that would be beneficial to the town.

Edit: Actually I might use this as an excuse to hunt for more chefs since they're down to like... three... and three vs a bunch of newcomers + any regulars is going to be tough. 8|a

I like it. It's going to let Daisy get busy. Though military is often forbidden from serving as a police force for a reason...

    PLOTTING IDEAS:

    - The MJOLNIR has a fission reactor that may serve to give some electricity, but I'm not exactly sure how much. Supposedly even UNSC Marines (lowly NPCs aiding the Chief) have similar (albeit more primitive) packs aiding them, but given it's five hundred years in the future, it's possible technology has improved a lot for anybody to carry one of the damned things around. The ODST suit may have something else, as well... This may need mod input, though. Damned things are dangerous as they are, so Daisy is not too fond to even tinkle with the thing given Luceti's tech level.

    - Help in strength-based matters, or even having to deal with keeping things in check. Since she's got tech and some munitions gained from her missions, this may make for some trouble, too. Especially so with gangs wanting to form. Daisy is aware of this, and may want to transport her things to Val's house, but again, might not be as easy.

CRUEL ADDENDUM: Someone either getting the ODST suit of armor for trouble, or some idiot stealing the MJOLNIR, wanting to suit up, and getting himself killed brutally by his own muscular spasms the moment he raises his arm. But, sadly, compatible neural implants may be necessary...

    - As for if she finds anybody from her universe, I'm either tempted to give her a foreveralone.jpg feeling when she realizes there is no one from her universe (and would make for a stronger effect in the case scenario someone is actually apped from her canon), or she finds another person from the UNSC only far too briefly... or a Covenant Elite. Which would make for some rather brutal conflict.

Luke will mostly be with Brave Vesperia doing whatever that needs to be doing there. He might let someone take up the extra room he and Xion have, but he'd be a little hesitant since Xion's gone a mission, and it'd just feel wrong to give out a room without her knowing and agreeing with it. Still, he'll do what he can even outside the group, whether that means breaking up fights or getting more food or whatever. His powers aren't really useful in this instance, so he'll basically be a run around guy.

Teddy doesn't have any more room in his apartment for people, but he'll be willing to help however he can. He'd mostly be good for breaking up fights/gang related things or guarding food, as his Hulkling form is good for intimidation and has super strength capabilities. Even being 90% limited, he's still probably very strong, so if anyone needs heavy lifting or whatever else I listed, he's so there. The main downside will be that he can't maintain his shifted form for long, so Hulkling might not last for long.

They'll both be involved in town meetings or specific group meetings (Brave Vesperia/Blue Rogues? Avengers? You guys wanna do something?), and both are around if anyone has need for them.

Just a head's up, access to the forest might get a little harder! Moro will permit Lucetians to pass, but she is definitely not allowing any foreigners in. This can be a minor inconvenience for some, or it can explode into a big fiasco, depending on where you guys want to put yourselves on the sliding scale.

It will be entirely possible to sneak past, since Moro is only around the border between the forest and the village, and won't pursue anyone deeper in the woods unless trees are cut (as per usual). Moro's grown fond and somewhat trusting of Luceti folk, but she won't hesitate to kill any of the newcomers, so if anyone drags them out of the village they will have to be super sneaky!

Moro will have a whole post for her sudden shift in territoriality, so anything involving that can be threaded out in said post or just handwaved as "they went in through the south while she was near the north" or whatever.

I'm with Daisy on this one, Military as police tends to end badly.

Luke Skywalker is going to be doing his level best to maintain order for his friends/family, and with the farming project. Even without the Force at full power, Luke's an accomplished soldier who's used missions and his own technical know-how to build up some basic tech. Other than that, he'll be spending time at the field, making sure his new pet Bantha doesn't wind up a Bantha Burger.

Rei Hino will probably be sitting this event out as much as humanly possible. Being around strangers, and with what is now a full house, I don't know what she can offer. However, I won't rule her out if someone wants to plot with Rei.

Saori Kimura is going to be in a real pickle. Fighting Apep left her severely drained of energy. She did her binding ritual, and that was done with energy on loan from other people. Now, with the power cap? She'll probably be very, very sick from just the sheer ups and downs in her power cycle. But she may try and help the electrical situation. If someone wants to help take care of a severely sickened storm goddess, I know it'd be good for some fun down the road.

Susan Richards will be helping to defend peace and order since thats what super heroes do. With her barrier powers weakened, thats going to be kinda tough. I suppose she could still do something small with them, but I think it could be fun to have a few Skrull NPCs running around causing trouble. Maybe a few Kree too. If anyone wants to do something with that...

Sokka always knew this day would come. Seriously, he's packed the basement with canned goods and other nonperishable foods. Besides that, I'm thinking the smithy will get raided a few days into the thing. He may get hurt when it happens. I'm not sure. But it means the NPCs will be well-armed!

Ling Yao will probably pass out from hunger at some point. Otherwise he has a more-than-full house and there's not a lot he can do to help people. So playing it by ear with him. He could be something of a problem due to how much food he can eat. So he may need some reprimanding.

Cyborg has powers that come from technology, so theoretically he shouldn't be affected as much by the shift. However, he'll run out of power because it will take more juice to get his usual results. So a day or two into the event will probably see him running out of power and shutting down. Even our electrical people in Luceti may have a difficult time keeping him charged.

Wolverine will have his healing factor virtually brought to a halt, since that full ten percent is going to be used just to keep him from getting sick from adamantium poisoning. So he won't even be able to use his claws without leaving holes in his hands in need of healing. So he'll be pretty much normal. As for what he'll be doing? Trying to keep the peace and break up fights. Yell at people who need yelling at.

Yun will be happy to help out wherever help might be needed, though it sounds like the house she's at will be helping to house refugee children and she'll definitely be helping them as well.

adding: There will also be another person from Alma Kinan among the refugees, but Yun will be going out of her way to avoid being noticed by her, since there's no point in both of them being sad (or... sadder, I guess) and I'm terrible like that.

Draco probably won't realize they have guests until any of them stray up into his mountains, someone tells him, or he visits the town. I have a few ideas for him! I mean, in the end he'd like to help, but a few other plans might be him:

Actually, I've settled on Draco getting attacked by refugees once they're properly armed from that smithy raid! Some dragonslayers from another world/his own world being among the refugees and deciding to try their luck with him. I haven't figured out all the specifics yet for that post, but it'll either be he's attacked at his cave in the mountains or he's attacked while staying near the village to help keep the peace. Just gotta think of a way to make it accessible to everyone else now.

He'd also be willing to do some fishing out in the ocean for the village, too, though he has no idea how to use a net and would probably end up bringing them a shark instead...

Also up for plotting with both of them for anything else, of course. o/

    Congrats, Aly!

    * * *

No concrete plans for either of my fellas. All I know so far is that...

Isaac will be looking out for himself and keeping an eye on his sis (YO JULIA, COME ON OVER FOR DINNER. Hope you like venison!) The spotty electricity won't bother him all that much - he lives in a cave and it's lit by candles, so no worries here. XD Yeeeeah, pretty sure Isaac does NOT need to be bothered by suspicious/resentful NPCs... with his temper, it wouldn't go down especially well. It's been a little rough for him lately.

Mac will doing his best to help however he can, of course, even though he's terribly limited. But he's still a fish out of water. He'll try to keep morale up, knowing him. GIVE MOTIVATIONAL SPEECHES JUST LIKE DOC WOULD.

In other words, I have no plots going on. XD

Helios for the most part is gonna be on the down low for this event. Especially since the Apep plot he hasn't really been around as much. But he will take initiative and try to make sure the library is safe and secure. If anyone working in the library would want to help out that'd be cool too. He might also just...allow people to sleep there if room runs out or something.

Ran Fan- Nothing set in stone, but with the food, she'll probably be giving most of her food to Ling and her pet chicken, Knox. Though, if May and Greed (once they work things out... maybe??) need some, she'll give them her food as well.

She'll be willing to help out if someone needs it, and I'm willing to throw her anywhere.

But yes, I have no real plans.
