Mission Update!

Droid Sabotage - Begins September 21st (fyi: we pushed the date up by one!)
Field Leader: Steve Rogers; Security: Alia Shepard, Sophie, Rogue, Greg Lestrade, Gai Tsutsugami, Masaomi Kida, Leonhardt; Stealth: Trafalgar Law, Fujiko Mine, Nara Shikamaru, Albert Silverberg, Loki; Technicians: Donatello, Artemis Fowl II, Daisy, Tony Stark; Programmers: Robert Hastings, Pascal, Doctor “Eggman” Robotnik, Raine Sage

New mission will come later this month! We're going to try out a shorter sign-up time to see if it raises more volunteers.

If you're new here, then this is a mission post. You can find available missions at [personal profile] rpmanager. You are welcome to subscribe or track the journal, but this is not required, as updates will be posted on this journal. For those of you who don't know about missions, the links below should help you out. I suggest you start with the Mission FAQ first!

The log is going up for this current mission at the same time. Check out the details inside for a special chance for one character to play ‘hero’ and save the day. However playing hero doesn’t come cheap, either. There will be a thread on here to volunteer for this role!

Tony would favor sabotaging the batteries himself. It's a very subtle tactic and the fact that the battery is breaking physical laws will drive him crazy. Batteries are a part of the droid he'd be especially interested in studying, too, so this is likely where his focus will be. It'll give him a good look at part of what makes 'em tick, and that's what he wants.

Hmm. With the way things are, I guess Shepard's a shoe-in for the Science Team's security needs. :|a

I don't want to take anyone's spot but Fujiko won't be as useful on the Science Team, and she is obscenely good at distractions, blowing things up, and kidnapping. (Like genuinely she's kidnapped/body-guarded princesses, heads of state, and various world leaders: even Fidel Castro.)

She can pretend to be a guard or infiltrate as just about anything, and she is very familiar with the idea of changing plans from kidnapping to blowing things up to just distraction or "improvising" the whole thing.

She is a wild card *even to other teammates though* so anyone who knows of this might not want her in, but in this case I don't think she'd profit anything from betraying Team B, she'd just be really insanely good at making it look like she would (and then pull them out of the fire at the last minute as need be since she wants them to get her out alive)

/raises hand for Fujiko

Provided (flow-chart) kidnapping and/or possible explosions is also part of this team.

I think we could swing it on the just in case side, seeing as I still haven't heard from Nadia. Maybe she could make herself look like one of the high rollers? The way I see it they have to infiltrate in two sections anyways - the resort itself and the con inside. The people who take the con (I'm imagining Shikamaru and Masaomi at this point) will likely deal with the FTSA, while the others deal with bureaucrat if they get a chance at him.

If they do, maybe she could sell the role of the others? Say they pose as Malnosso agents to escort him to safety. She could be another high roller there that's worked with them before and believes them. 8|a

Perfect. Works for me! THANK YOU!

This is also good since she cares less about the FTSA and more about kidnapping/explosions :3 Her priorities man.

XD

Though if an explosion happens, I do imagine the con/FTSA people will be the ones handling it. The longer a bureaucrat believes them the better, and if his guards are blowing the place up that'll give them away sooner. They're not planning to blow anything up unless the place is actually evacuated, after all. 8|b

Team A plan?

[personal profile] daisy023 2012-09-23 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Let's see... For the main plan:

1. Team A waits for the distraction, and have their sights on Kidston if possible. Team B is imposed a time limit to perform their diversion. Just in case, should both teams have a radio operator in an encrypted channel to inform when the diversion is on?

- On one hand, it could simply be a click of their comm channels twice to begin their Op, three if something goes wrong.

1a. If something goes wrong with the distraction, Team A will probably have to enter by force on both the installation and assembly line. When this happens, it goes to point 3cd.

- On another, perhaps simply seeing what happens back in their location could be better. Using radios could be a little risky if the Malnosso catch the frequency, even if the teams are using an encrypted channel.

2. Kidston is neutralized, preferably by tranquilizer darts, unless Loki sods something up and he only uses her wings, or the team is forced to reprogram the wing scanner.

2a. If Kidston is rendered unconscious but alive, she could be stuffed into a crate or closet as they move in to the assembly line.

2b. If Kidston is killed, Loki would be pretending to be her, though... he'd probably risk being left in some location until he escapes by his own means.

(Of minor note, Daisy... wouldn't be too troubled by the death of one of the scientists, given they're part of the enemy. Superior officers, squadmates, civilians, threats, and all that. She just thinks keeping Kidston unconscious would be better in case there are more safety locks needing her alive in some manner.)

2c. If the situation turns far too difficult to deal with either capture or execution of Kidston, the team would be focused on cracking the wing scanner.

2d. Daisy is against this, but if all else fails, they'd put explosives on the door, and perform their task with an extremely low amount of time.

3abc. In the assembly line, the more important sabotages would consist in lightly tampering with the perpetual battery so it stops being one, weakening the joints and the alloy (reducing the carbon density), and programmers could disable a number of reactions, or even just introducing a handful of lines that could make it prone to glitch sometimes.

Preferably, only the more basic tasks could be done, both for time and subtlety in the droids' defects.

(A few suggestions: in programming? Disabling a line is less dangerous than deleting it. And patches in software are called that, because they're put over the original program to correct things. Even a single wrong line of code could have repercussions on the operation of the droids.)

3cd. With the attention forcing the door open might cause, or the lack of time, Team A would make only the most basic forms of sabotage in the assembly: Battery tampering, slight alloy changing, and a handful of lines of code.

4. Team A escapes the facility, preferably evading the sight of everyone, sets a scout ahead in case they are being followed, and reaches the extraction point.

Flowchart basically put into my words my thoughts. Fujiko won't want to blow things up since that would blow her cover until said cover is already blown. Like in Cagliostro, she literally only started blowing things up when Lupin already was and just stripped her cover the night he showed up saying, "I didn't want to, but now that he's here, everything's about to explode anyway so I'll see ya~"

Anyways, yes, she'd basically be following the flow chart to a Tee. So long as she can keep the bureaucrat believing her the better in her opinion. She just has infinite backup plans as well.

Yep, he'd be ideal since he's got experience with kidnapping in a similar situation and I had commented to a different thread that he's really better for it.

Though honestly, I realized that the whole protective shifts thing was unclear because I can actually read that as two things, that powers are blocked entirely, or the shifts only protect building from being destroyed by powers. Asked up in the questions thread but haven't got a clarification. We know very well if any powers are usable, that will change things a lot.

Team A plan?

[personal profile] deathsdoctor 2012-09-24 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
Right now I'm operating on the assumption powers are nixed completely, but depending on what the mods say regarding use of powers (and how much use and where if they are active) in the facility, I'd like to throw in Law's abilities in for consideration, as they could potentially be very useful if not completely suppressed.

Teleportation: Maybe or maybe not Law could be option C in getting them past the door, but he'd certainly be handy in moving the entire team around the facility or extracting them completely.

Manipulation of matter: Law can create holes in walls (and then seal them up without a trace), and basically manipulate the environment any way he sees fit (levitation, displacement, outright matter warping). If he's prevented from teleporting, any use of this ability would be helpful in helping Team A avoid security, and if avoiding said security is out of the question, it can certainly buy them time. Bonus: his ability also also him to cut through pretty much anything (it even slices a substance harder than diamond in his canon) that doesn't have a shift attached to it.

Mother of Edit: 50% powercap in the actual facility and 90% in the resort as per this comment. So these abilities are definitely available to be played with.

Yeah, I've been curious on that myself (Shikamaru could take multiple disguises without needing costumes one way, for example).

How will it effect the situation for Leonhardt if powers are a no-go?
eyesofstrength: (069)

[personal profile] eyesofstrength 2012-09-24 06:01 am (UTC)(link)
Not too much really. Outside of having an ability that renders him truly invisible, most of his skill in stealth isn't supernatural, and he did do the secret mission with no powers which was basically a kidnapping as well. He actually gets screwed harder for weapons because his sword is summoned, but since weapons will be provided, not a problem. But if powers are a go, we have his shadows to add to our numbers.

More numbers would make this mission harder, I think, unless they're from the FTSA who are there legitimately. But either way, SWEET. It should work out nice then.

[personal profile] eyesofstrength 2012-09-24 06:57 am (UTC)(link)
Though one shadow to go with Team A probably wouldn't hurt. He actually could do both at once as long as he has that power available to him.

And Masa said powers will be available. 90% in the resort, 50% in the facility. He can use his shadows with a 90% cap, so if we want him on both teams via a shadow, he can do it. That way we have good numbers for both.

As the only person on the mission who can't pass as human, how ninja will Don have to be to get into the facility? Does the staff there reflect Luceti's typical from-many-different-worlds mix, so he can pass himself off as a legitimate occupant of the building? Or will any non-human be immediately recognizable as an individual not usually seen around the place?
