All right. Several things; we're introducing a new element to the game, but let's deal with the unpleasant business first.

Application time is being reduced to the first week of every month.

Luceti has gotten to the point in both its size and lifespan that we need to start pushing plot rather than focus on drawing people in. Because a long-standing application window means that new arrivals trickle in every three weeks out of four per month, it makes it very difficult for characters, muns and mods to really do anything significant. So we're shifting our focus from new arrivals to plot.

All right? Cool.

NEXT...LY.

Starting February, the Malnosso are going to start recruiting characters for the war. It's not mandatory for you, as players, but it should be considered as something of a draft amongst the characters. Every other month or so the Malnosso will release a short list of characters that need to report in for battle; they'll be transported to another location via the flat, silver disc platforms in the tunnels. For a week they will push back the advancing lines of the third party at a location described in the draft post for the month. While on the battlefield, their powers will be back to full and they'll have whatever weapons they needed. Allow me to explain in greater detail.

  • Here is the OOC sign-up post. If you would like your character recruited -at any time- just go there and drop a comment using the form provided. The draft is handled on a first-come, first-serve basis unless a mun in question has a dire need to be a filthy line-cutter.

  • Every other month or so the Malnosso will make a post as soon as applications close; anywhere from ten to thirty characters will be chosen to head to the battlefield against the Third Party. In that post will be descriptions of what type of enemy they'll be facing, what the battlefield will look like, and how long they'll be gone.

  • During the time the character is on the battlefield, they obviously won't be able to do any action posts with anyone in the village. They can use their journals the same as ever for when they aren't fighting, and they can engage in action threads with those on the battle field with them.

  • Like the kidnappings, this will act mostly on assumption. Assume your character is out there fighting these enemies, or you can play it out with someone else and godmode the enemies all you like. A decent enough description will be provided so that you can do this, but if you have any questions by all means, ask them!

  • Also like the kidnappings, if you would like your character to be recruited so that you may take a hiatus, that's completely okay too. Just let us know and drop a note in the hiatus post, as always.

  • RETURNED POWERS DO NOT INCLUDE SUMMONING. Summons are still a no go. We swear, there's a reason for this, it's not just cockblocking.

  • If your character dies on the battlefield, all the same rules still apply. They'll be returned to the village upon awakening, though.

  • If your character decides not to show up. TOO BAD. Droids will come claim your character and shove him/her onto the platform. Whether or not they decide to fight once they've been transported to the battlefield is another matter entirely.

  • If someone other than a recruited character gets on the platform, nothing will happen. They'll just hold up he line.

Any questions/concerns/comments? As always, feel free.

fff this is kind of already what I had happen to Sasarai post-death.

As far as closing the application window is concerned... I in some ways agree and in other ways disagree, but I feel like the playerbase should have been allowed more input on this matter before a mod decision was made. I personally don't see myself having an issue with it given I have no plans to app anyone else, but some might see it as unnecessarily stressful. IDK.

Here's hoping the 7-day window will make it a little less stressful for you guys. :|b

Um, couple of questions.

* If your character is drafted and he/she decides not to show up, what happens then?

* And if he/she decides to go and half their canonmates decide they're coming along? I can see that happening with a few different casts >_>;

I think this looks really interesting, modfolk. As for the application window, I think it's a good idea. Not that I had a say in it to begin with, but I'm sure it'll be useful in some way.

Very nice. I like the twist.

I also appreciate the application time reduction. Though it may be troublesome for appers, I definitely relate with the not-being-able-to-do-anything-significant point.

Could characters be drafted more than once? I'm sure IC reasons could be made up, but I'm wondering how it would be handled OOCly.

I'm all for the one-week only app period. It's been rather crazy lately with all the apps.

Also, if we send in multiple characters, do they get drafted in order of post there or do you choose? /might not have read this properly

[identity profile] ofbluelightning.livejournal.com 2010-01-19 09:24 am (UTC)(link)
If we sign up a character for recruitment is it going to be a one time deal or a regular thing?

I'm mostly asking because I actually have a character I'd be perfectly fine with having go regularly. I think you guys know who I'm talking about, it would be Yuber. Some NPCs to slaughter mercilessly will satisfy his cravings nicely and he won't feel such a need to kill characters, well except for entertainment obviously.

[identity profile] reachedhislimit.livejournal.com 2010-01-19 09:25 am (UTC)(link)
I just had a random thought, and figured asking = good.

If someone were to sign up a noncombatant to be drafted and they were sent to war, would it be hard for them to survive, or would they have other possible jobs?

And if it were hard for them to survive, how would deaths work out? Same death penalties/waiting period, or instant and penalty-free? I didn't see that one. XD

Here's a question!

Once on the battlefield, what happens if the characters try to escape?

/uses other journal

[identity profile] gospelofgreen.livejournal.com 2010-01-19 09:27 am (UTC)(link)
I find this hilarious because I was actually thinking "hey, maybe applications should be reduced to ten days so the new feathers actually all get there in the first two weeks". ...also because it's 3 in the morning and I'm easily amused.

I ACTUALLY DO HAVE A QUESTION. What does this mean for reservations for characters? Are they being done away with, drastically reduced, left as is...?

*loads that recruitment page*

[identity profile] valorandwisdom.livejournal.com 2010-01-19 09:28 am (UTC)(link)
Is there any space of time where a mun can't send a character off to fight? Like, say, given the insane number of muns we have playing here, do you want to say, for example, that Cecil Cloud what the HELL TAI AND Guy can sign up, but have to have one space between them so as to make it fair for others?

Are we allowed to sign all of ours up at once and just let you all do a Russian Roulette as to who goes when or do you want us to do one at a time?

What about castmates that have to go together? I think this might be limited to just Sora and Roxas, considering what Ty and I have done with them, but I should probably ask it before it gets started.

...I'll probably think of more >.>

So let me see if I get this straight, before I make stupid assumptions.

Your character can be taken out to war more than once, but for every single time you need to post a new comment and 'get in line', am I right?

Okay I have a question. If a character is drafted, do the Malnosso give them awesome additional weapons that they can use? Luffy can fight just fine with his fists, but I personally think he'd take out a lot more people if he had an arm canon. Same with Bang actually.

[identity profile] unseenspy.livejournal.com 2010-01-19 10:22 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I have another question - will this affect the monthly experiments/events?

[identity profile] holyblade.livejournal.com 2010-01-19 10:33 am (UTC)(link)
Oh man. PREAZE TELL ME THIS ISN'T THE END OF THE GAME YOU GUYS I will be le sad if it is. :( Unless this is just part of the bigger plot and more will happen later?

That said, I think the only time I'll have anyone go out will be Rosa (so far) and she'll pretty much have to go with Cecil. BUT YES, this seems really awesome!

What about characters who aren't suit for fighting or directly lack weapons? Luka could fight, stretching it a bit even if she's not really suited for battle. But Akira here... He doesn't even have a weapon of his own, do the Malnosso still drag him there to die or something?

You know, like, his way to defend the line would be to die and have his corpse in a bad place so the enemy trips over him and can't advance...

[identity profile] sniperkingftw.livejournal.com 2010-01-19 12:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Battlefield injuries. Is drafting also like kidnappings in that these are optional/mun-determined or optional? Or are you going to the trouble of making a pre-determined casualty list?

Would there be any side effects if someone got drafted and refused to fight when they got there? Doubting they'd draft someone like Vash; but it would be nice to keep in mind if something comes up at a later date. I'm assuming that would come up IC-ly possibly?

This might be a weird question (sorry if it makes no sense), but what about Filial magic, does that disappear, or can it still be used?

And are specific battles predetermined by the mods as a win or loss? Or is that determined mostly by the characters who engage in battle at the time, then report back on their return? I hope that makes sense too? ^-^;

Since powers are back to 100%, does that mean Macbeth would go back to being 100% immortal and invulnerable to death?

Oh my. I sort of agree with the app time length, but I wonder if that will actually shrink anything, or just make people cram more?

Also sigh. I'm at the point where I really just want to know why. It won't stop me from using the list, I think having this is actually pretty cool. It's just discouraging.

[identity profile] griffins.livejournal.com 2010-01-19 03:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Is putting people on the list mean that they're going to go right away, or are you guys doing some kind of random drawing?

I have several characters I wouldn't mind having drafted, but I don't want them all leaving right away and I don't have a specific one in mind for going first either.

[identity profile] waitedinwinhill.livejournal.com 2010-01-19 03:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Two questions:

*Will powers, or lack of them, change who gets "drafted"? Raine has none, but I'm curious if they'd even bother drafting her because of it.

*Along that same line, are they just taking fighters, or would they draft medical staff as well?
