We like to party!
Hey Lucetians! It's that special time if month where we say GO FILL OUT THE ACTIVITY CHECK!
Okay, good, that's out of the way. Now then, we've got two weeks left of August. How shall we spend them?
On August 18th, a new island will be located just right off the coast, near the desert fort. A short five minute walk across the bridge will bring you to this island. But what's on this island?
Well, it's Luceti Land! Quite like the one in the past, this Luceti Land features roller coasters! Rides! Carnival games! Sticky candy for your mouth! But that's just the old stuff. The main attractions include the new water park! With all sorts of water slides, wave pools, lazy rivers, and all sorts of fun things like that. (In other words, if there's an attraction usually in an amusement park, it's going to be in Luceti Land.)
All the rides are free, you can earn fabulous prized from the carnival games (if you like large stuffed animals and useless trinkets anyway), and there's even a nice spacious hotel on the far side of the island, if you just can't bear to wait. (For the curious, these hotels are set up exactly like the dorms used on drafts, but without the hangar. There is room service, but only for food.) All of the rides, games, and the hotel will be staffed my droids, dressed appropriately to each role. They won't speak to the residents, but they also won't try and kidnap them, so that's a plus. Also, fireworks every weekend night at 10 PM!
Oh, as for when the amusement park goes away? It will remain there until the month ends. At midnight of the 31st, the island will prepare to 'vanish'. Anyone still on the island will be escorted off by the droids (though not forcefully, so if your character drowns from resisting, that's their own fault.)
As way of explanation for all this, Bil will have written a message on the first page of the journals. It cannot be replied to, it simply states: "My condolences for all the trouble. You were due for an experiment today, but I thought you might enjoy an amusement park instead. It seemed like the sort of thing the Great One would do."
--
Some other things to look out for as well. Another draft will start on the 25th. Yes, Luceti Land will still be around for the duration of it. The draft will be similar to the last one, though a little less dangerous this time around. This time around, we'll be having our fight on the ocean, around an island archipelago. More details will come as we draw closer to the draft date, as well as a list of draftees once the AC is done. If you haven't already, be sure to sign up!
Finally! One last thing that we'll start implementing sometime next month (but intend to ICly announce this month) is a new alternative to kidnappings. As Bil alluded to previously, the Malnosso will start selecting small groups of residents to go out on special missions on behalf of the Malnosso. This includes mundane things like volunteering for experimentation (but without all the drugs and droid abuse), performing patrol duties, going on stealth operations, repairing broken equipment, providing medical attention to injured people, and various other tasks. We'll be counting on all of you to come up with some suggestions for us to use too, so we'll have a Missions Suggestions post set up too.
How will this work? We will have a post for different missions available for people to take. It will include the necessary details for the mission and what your character needs to qualify, as well as what they stand to gain as reward from it. Most missions will be solo ones and will basically work as an alternative for kidnapping, allowing your character to be removed from action in the game without the drama normally associated with having your character trapped in a cell as an experiment. That's not to say kidnappings will cease, but this is part of Bil's plan to one day phase them out.
The rewards characters will stand to gain include the sort of items that characters could previously request from Bil, as well as some new useful trinkets that will help ward off experiment effects and be able to hide from droids. They won't be fool proof methods, but characters will be able to give them to their friends. So going on a few missions to prevent your best friend from being drafted is surely worth it, right? At least... if the trinket works, anyway.
Anyway, that's just the teaser for what's to come. We'll announce it in more detail later.
That's all! Remember, reserves open on the 18th. Please use the mod questions thread below for anything you'd like to ask about. The rest of the post may be used for general discussion. Cheers!

All too familiar with the blood, sweat, and tears. Mind if I ask what instrument you play? Oh definitely. XD Ginia has no idea what Grune can do, but definitely feels it's something.

I play flute out of the band instruments! …When I don't have tendinitis, anyway. She's got good instincts, that one!
no subject
Very cool! I used to play clarinet. Ick, tendinitis, killer of all musical instrument players. My condolences. Grune doesn't strike Ginia as a damsel in distress and she was just as exhausted as Giles was so she must have done something along the way.
no subject
Thanks. ♥ And oh man, you have my deepest admiration. I came the closest I ever did to flunking a course thanks to my complete inability to play the clarinet, so I've been seriously impressed with anyone who can manage it ever since. Clever, clever woman. Man, cannot wait for the draft announcement now!
no subject
Awww, thank you, though I could say the same about the flute! I've tried and failed at that. I can move Ginia's draft sign-up so she comes in with Grune?
no subject
It's probably because clarinet and flute require polar opposite embouchures--even if the fingerings are similar, they just plain don't mix. Nah, you don't have to. We could leave it luck-of-the-draw.
no subject
So very true. Then you have clarinet and saxophone which are the same so that's a really easy switch to make. Works for me.
no subject
Also, dude, are you me?...Which is the other reason why I nearly flunked the course! Thank god for the written part.

The even sadder part is when I do end up writing fic for someone, it ends up being all smut. *facepalm*I'm so glad I only kept music as a hobby and never a profession. I have friends that are music majors (though mostly piano or opera singers) and dear god, music theory. It hurts my brain.
no subject
I fail to see how this is a problem. :DIf it's any consolation, it gets easier with practice? Although please don't quiz me; I don't even want to know how much I've forgotten since my degree.
no subject
Because I'm also not very good at writing smut :|;;This is true. I played piano for around 6 years and clarinet for three so I know all the music theory stuff, but I don't know the details and if you asked me for specifics, I wouldn't be able to answer.
no subject
You're probably better than you think, if you're anything like...uh, all the ficcers I know. :D;;Ooh, piano too, eh? High five!
no subject
The sad thing is those are the same words I tell all my friends about their writing. XD;; Oh confidence, where art thou?*high five!* My older brother is the real piano player of the family, he's been playing for... somewhere around 16 years now.
no subject
I sure as hell don't know. XD;;Wow, good for him for keeping up that long. Most people don't.
