Hi everyone! We're gonna do things a little different this time and tell you about an event. An event that will happen in two weeks. Why? Because you're gonna need the time to wrap your head around it. Let's dive right in.
A Trip To Another World
Okay everyone. Remember how Bil made that post talking about all the amazing things that would happen? Well if you don't (or you're new here), go check that out. Interesting developments, to be sure.
But oh, it's not so simple. There are going to be complications. To get it out the way first, Bil is going to lose his research to the rogue Malnosso, the ones responsible for kidnappings. This will change the focal point of the event. The focus will not be on characters' visiting other characters' worlds, although you may certainly thread that out if you like.
But before we get into the new focal point, let me give you the basics for the background and how this will all work out.
Q. So what's going on?
A. Characters will be able to visit another's world. For convenience, we'll call the person returning to their own world the 'Host' and the person going with them the 'Visitor'.
Q. So how does this work for the 'Host'?
A. The Host will return to their own world from the same canon point they were drawn to Luceti from. Any physical changes they had will be temporarily lost, as they revert to whatever their body was like in their own world. Think of how it works in canon updating. If Sokka went back to his own world, he'd go back to being his scrawny fifteen year old self. A Host won't be sent back to their world if they have died in it already.
Once they have returned to Luceti, they will regain any physical changes they've developed over their stay in Luceti. Think of it as having their consciousness moved into a past version of themself.
Q. What about the Visitor?
A. The Visitor will remain exactly as they are in Luceti but without their wings. However, their abilities may potentially be limited. Whereas the Luceti world enables people to use special abilities (such as magic, bending, alchemy, super powers, and so on) derived from a source inherit to their own world, that same source may not be present in another world. For instance, Luke Skywalker may go to to the Harry Potter universe and discover that The Force does not exist there, thus causing him to be unable to use his abilities derived from it. (This is something for you as players to work out on a canon-by-canon basis. So you don't need to get our permission, just a consensus with your castmates.)
Filial magic will not carry over for either Host or Visitor.
Q. What if they have castmates in the game from an earlier canon point?
A. The Host and Visitor will be the ONLY ones to remember their time in Luceti. Even if Sokka was to go back to his own world, he couldn't get Katara (who is from an earlier canon point) to remember Luceti.
Q. What if two Hosts are both from the same world?
A. Even if two Hosts go back to the same world and are from the same canon point, these two sets will not overlap. Their visits will be completely separate.
Q. So what does this mean for the Host's world once this is all over?
A. Any changes made to the Host's world will be undone after their 21 hours has been completed. Think of it like a bucket of water. You drop a stone in it and the water moves to accomodate it. You remove the stone, it returns to its former state. That is exactly how this will work.
--
Please note that you are free to simply handwave and talk about thow these visits will go. This is not the focal point of this event and is probably best left assumed. However, you can thread it out. Do note that canon characters from the Host's world will essentially be treated as NPCs. Those who are playing the Visitors should treat those characters respectfully and communicate with other players on any significant developments that may occur. For instance, if Sokka was to go back to Winry's world with her, I wouldn't have any developments occur with the 'NPC' version of Edward Elric without first talking to his mun about it.
Also, it can be assumed that characters who have already made plans to visit the other's world may have already passed on their intentions to Bil over the past month. In which case, the rogue Malnosso may go ahead and use those pairings. They might not. Essentially it's at the player's discretion if they want to use what they've already set up or come up with something random!
Another Alternate Universe Event!
So what IS the focal point, you ask? Well, the rogue Malnosso aren't being as careful as Bil was planning. And something will Go Terribly Wrong. After the 21 hour visit has ended, one of the Hosts or Visitors will accidentally become 'anchored' to the other's world. Essentially this means their life will be 'rewritten' as if they had grown up in that world all their life. Consider this as an alternate timeline (or alternate universe) where instead of living in their own canon, characters have grown up, lived, developed, and adventured as they would in another character's canon.
Let's go with another example, okay?
Sokka and Winry visited her world. Afterward, Winry was accidentally anchored to Sokka's world. When they return to Luceti, both of them will have different memories than before. Winry may remember being found as an orphan in the Southern Water Tribe, where she grew up alongside Sokka. Sokka would share in those altered memories of Winry being a part of their tribe, despite her unusual blond hair. On the other hand, Katara (who in this example is un-evented) won't remember Winry being part of her world at all. Likewise, Edward will find it strange that Winry has forgotten all her childhood memories with him.
I bet you're tired of mod character examples, huh? Some things to consider
Q. If my character was the Host, does that mean the Visitor will be anchored to my character's world?
A. It doesn't matter who is the Host or the Visitor. One character may end up anchored to the other. It's at player's discretion.
Q. If my character is in another world, can she still use her special powers?
A. The person with the new 'anchor' will have arrived in the new world as an infant to be found and adopted. They have no real parents in this universe, having been accidentally deposited there due to the new anchor. Consequently, any ability they possess would have to be something they were born with, even if the ability did not manifest until later. While it is feasible that Edward's alchemy might work in another world, the fact he never was able to learn it means he won't be able to use it. This also means he probably would never lose an arm and leg, so an Alternate Universe Edward might have a full body (and be taller to boot!)
Someone like Gambit, however, is a mutant from birth and would later develop powers in his teenage years. So even if he ended up in some mundane world, he would be unique in his ability to generate kinetic energy and have unusual black and red eyes. On the other hand, if Gambit arrived in the Harry Potter universe, he'd just be a 'muggle' unable to use magic due to the way magic works in that canon (you have to be born to it), even though he still has his mutant ability. However if he arrived in the Fullmetal Alchemist universe, he could potentially learn alchemy and use it.
The newly anchored character will actually be physically and mentally different during the event! To use a non-Luceti example, Spider-Man would never be bit by a radioactive spider if he was in the Street Fighter universe. During the course of the event, Spider-Man would just be Peter Parker and not possess his Spider-Man powers. Likewise, Edward would have no reason to even try to use alchemy nor any knowledge of how to do it.
If you want your character to retain their original abilities in some fashion, then be creative! You just need to come up with some logical reason for why this might happen.
Q. Won't my 'anchored' character think it's weird he has all these different belongings?
A. During the course of the event, the person who is Shifted into a different world will lose all their canon possessions and have them replaced with ones they might have gained from the other world. Once the event is over, they will regain their original possessions and lose the old ones.
This also applies to canon pets as well. If Gold becomes anchored to Masaomi's world, he won't have any Pokemon in Luceti. Like other possessions, they'll return once the event ends. (Pets that are born in Luceti are exempt from this, even if their parents stops existing.)
Q. Hey, since there's someone new in the timeline, couldn't they change what happens?
A. The presence of a new person in another world may potentially alter events. Each pair of players are encouraged to fully plot out what differences might occur! For instance, Vegeta might end up anchored to Bellemere's world and prevent her death. Or maybe he'll take over the world and kill all his enemies!
Q. But wait, would our characters even meet at all?
A. There is an element of 'predestination' inherent in the AUs. This means events in their lives will result in them meeting the person they share this AU with in some significant way. To some extent, aspects of their personality may be similar to their original one. While they may not be entirely the same, Sanji in Kotetsu's universe may still be fantastic cook and still idolizing women, despite having a whole new backstory.
Q. What does that mean for their memories in Luceti?
A. Their Luceti history and relationships will be more or less in tact, though it may be adjusted to accomodate 'losing' and 'gaining' castmates. For instance, from Sanji's point of view he would know his 'new castmates' like Barnaby and Pao-Lin very well, but consider Nami from his original world is more of a casual acquaitance. Feel free to plot out how their perceptions of other characters might change as well.
Q. Uh wait, so how old are they in their new canon? Or in Luceti?
A. If you want to get into the complicated details (and eww, who does?), bear in mind ages. If Katara was AUed into Shikamaru's universe, she would have spent fourteen years there before arriving in Luceti, aging here until she became sixteen as she is now.
Q. Once it's over, will they remember everything?
A. How much or how little is up to each set of players, but largely they'll find their new memories will quickly fade away once they revert to their old self. Think of it as having read a book. Although the memories may linger, they won't be quite the same or as strong as the real ones. However they may still retain some knowledge of any skills they gained or any emotional attachments they made. These things will eventually fade away, unless they are put to use in some way.
--
Whew! That covers it. So to sum this all up, you'll be creating your own new 'timeline' with characters from two different canons now in one canon. The challenge is for you to figure out how it will all work, which is why we're giving you so much advanced notice.
So, is that it? Well, that's the event. But goodness, we haven't barely touched the plot aspect yet!
How The Blue Man Falls
On the night of March 26th, one month after Bil's post (linked above) and after most people are in bed, the Battle Dome will be under siege by a small army of droids. These droids are sleeker and more efficient than they have in the past. They will disable anyone who is in the vicinity and initiate a lockdown on the Dome, temporarily trapping anyone present there in the simulation chambers or in the clinic. They will then proceed to access an elevator leading beneath the Dome. The NPC Molly will be abducted, Bil will be attacked, and his equipment destroyed or stolen. The droids will fight off all intruders with ruthless efficiency and ability. Those who happen to be present to try and fight them off will notice them exhibiting special abilities of Lucetian residents who have been kidnapped in the past in order to fight. If destroyed, their parts will quickly self-repair in what appears to be technoly-based regeneration. Residents who stay on the sidelines will be able to witness an unconscious Molly be taken away into the forest, but they droids will disappear at some point in the forest in a flash of light. The other droids will eventually disperse after handling any resistance and leave in the same manner.
What the residents of Luceti will find is a gutted elevator leading below the Dome. Delicate equipment has been smashed and destroyed, but amid the wreckage is Bil's body. Amazingly, he's still alive. Even more amazingly, he's at the mercy of the people of Luceti.
Unfortunately it's not that easy. A cynical and careful old man, Bil has placed several protective Shifts around himself. Primarily he creates a bubble that nullifies all technology or special abilities within six inches of his body. While he is still utterly defenseless, his own safety net also means he can't be easily healed. Complicating that is that his injuries will be extensive and he won't be immediately pulled out of a coma. If allowed to live, he'll be in that state for awhile, healing for quite some time. He is a very old man and when he does eventually wake up, it will be difficult to question him without aggravating his condition. It will be up to the residents of Luceti to decide his fate.
It will become apparent what the droids were after on April 1st, when suddenly a village-wide experiment is conducted. For the duration of that day, all affected villagers will be missing from the village, as they visit the different worlds they have been assigned to. All seems to go well. Until they get back. At midnight, they all return to wherever it was they were before the experiment started in the same state they were in a that time. However, their lives have been rewritten without them realizing. Over the course of the week, the villagers will no doubt realize something isn't right. Towards the end of the week, a message will go out from John. He'll need people from Luceti to help him retrieve information from the ruins of Bil's lab so he can find a way to reverse the process of what's happened. Will they be able to fix things before the anchors become important?? (Of course they will, but try to act like you're in suspense anyway.)
Now then, more of the stuff about the plot will unfold as those events unfold. That's just the overview. So let's recap everything with dates.
March 26th - The Battle Dome is attacked and raided.
April 1st - "A Trip To Another World" experiment occurs. Anyone affected will not be in the village for that day.
April 2nd - "Alternate Universe" event starts due to unexpected side effect. This lasts until the 8th.
April 7th-ish - John contacts the village to collect data for him in order to reverse the anchor mismatch.
THERE WE GO THAT IS EVERYTHING. Questions? Put 'em in the mod questions thread. Plotting Bil's fate? We got a thread for that too. The rest of the post is for you to plot your adorable little hearts out. Enjoy!
