event follow up + tunnel information

Hi everyone, we have some plot-related things for you as a follow up to the last mod post. First of all, we want to let you know that Carol and Davis haven't been seen since their one-day tour. As for the event, we will get to a surefire de-possession method in a moment. In addition to having another character ‘save’ yours from the dangers of a long-term possession, the effect may also simply wear off. All spiritual possessions (aside from Twila) have the potential to end should the spirit choose to vacate the host.

That said, there was some great discussion in reaction to John’s post! And it was more than entertaining to watch the denizens of Luceti grapple with this particular conundrum. Although we assume that many of the solutions offered were tested out (either in a handwaved capacity or otherwise), we can now tell you that the following attempts will be having the most success at removing individuals from a given spirit’s influence:

Exorcism - Suggested by Rin
  • There is the possibility to exorcise spirits as suggested here. This would, specifically, only work on opposing elements. So only Hyt could expel Twila, only Sona could expel Eferin, and so forth. This wouldn’t necessarily be specific to the canon-specific method in Blue Exorcist. The how is less important than the fact that each attempt should include some sort of sincere ritual in addition to the proper configuration of opposing spirits.

Put To Rest - Suggested by Helios
  • Similar to the above method, though less confrontational. By addressing the concerns of Twila (through the host), the spirit can be expelled. This is most effective if its between two or more differently possessed people. By reaching a kind of mutual ‘pact’, all participating parties may be freed from the spirits. For instance, a group of someone with Twila, Sona, and Hyt sharing a meal together. Or a group with Twila, Eferin, Faeren, and Tsinku sharing a group hug.

Silent Treatment - Suggested by Tony
  • By simply ignoring the spirit and refusing to indulge in its habits or abilities, the spirit will eventually find the host useless and depart on its own accord. This may prove difficult since people will increasingly want to indulge the spirit’s desires the more they ignore it. However, quarantining themselves in the tunnels will make this process easier.

What Twila desires is acceptance to stay in the village without fear of reprisal or being once again locked up; meanwhile, the other spirits want Twila to refrain from possessing people and to back down from all confrontations. Notably, all three of the above methods can act as symbolic gestures -- the other spirits welcoming, allowing, or tolerating Twila to reside openly within the village so long as it does not resume old habits. Naturally, you are free to assume whatever method you wish to use and don’t have to thread it out. At the end of the event, most people will no longer be possessed, but those who wish to continue the plotline may have their characters continue to be possessed until the 14th, whether they are Twila or another spirit. At the 14th, non-Twila spirits will leave their host regardless of what happens. Until then, they may stay with a host in the attempts of continuing to free any lingering Twila-possessed characters (most likely if they are close CR to their host). Once the 14th comes, the Malnosso will use a Shift to kill off any remaining Twila-possessed characters. If you intend to have this happen to your character, contact a mod and be sure to figure out a death penalty.

    --

Now that a nebulous balance has been restored to Luceti’s spirits, Twila will be available in similar ways to the others: as a teacher, willing to impart its knowledge and abilities to those willing to communicate. As mentioned in the original event post, Twila will be among the easiest spirits to learn -- rivalling Nala in its ease of contact. Additionally, this power will be exceptionally potent: even at early stages, characters in communication with Twila will be able to exert moderate control over shadows and darkness. The more they strengthen their relationship with the spirit, this control will grow. The same can be said with a character’s ability to cloak themselves in darkness, hide objects from sight, and stalk stealthily over a battlefield. The better a communion a character has with Twila, the more potent the power.

However, unlike the other spirits, a pact with Twila comes with a considerable physical toll. This price may present itself in a variety of ways: degrading constitution, weakened immune systems, loss of acuity or focus. On top of that, past levels of intermediate friendliness with Twila, characters will develop sensitivities (soon bordering on allergies) to one other element of the player’s choice. Perhaps your character finds themselves unreasonably sensitive to sunlight, uncomfortable with the feel of water on their skin, won’t go outside on windy days, can no longer tolerate even moderate heat, unable to use the village's electricity, or cannot go barefoot on the naked earth. These sensitivities can manifest themselves in a variety of ways, so once your character reaches the point of gaining one please grab hold of a mod and clear your idea beforehand.

Finally, we would like to stress that learning from Twila does not come with any personality changes. Although the spirit is opportunistic, your character will not suddenly be drawn to the dark side. These drawbacks are physical only -- though the drawbacks themselves may inspire concern, fear, or uncertainty for your characters.

    Tunnels

Now, Twila wasn’t the only that was down in the new tunnel section. In fact, there’s now an entire second floor:

But there’s a catch! All of these doors are locked and can’t be opened, which presents something of a problem since the power dampening Shift in the tunnels means these doors can’t just be blasted down, phased through, or whatever else might normally work. So what good is a floor leading to nine locked doors?

Well, they’ll be able to hack into them. After performing a proper search of the caverns below, there will be the option to find a digger’s skeleton. This skeleton will have with him rotted clothing, a hard hat, and most importantly: a keycard. Unfortunately this keycard won’t open the doors, but the card can be used to get into the doors. How?

On the first floor, there are some old computers that previously didn’t do much and were mostly broken down. However, one of these computers has a slot for keycards and is used for providing authorization access. By repairing this computer, that functionality can be returned. Of course, that would require having the passwords originally used to provide card key access. Now, while Luceti could just wait to find these access codes in some other mission or event, they could just hack their way into finding the right key codes.

By this method, a tech savvy character can run a program to decrypt the access code for each of those nine doors. Each time they get a new code, they can enter a new door. The downside is that they can only process as fast as the computer does, so unlocking each door could take anywhere from four to eight weeks. However, they’ll have the option of picking which door to try and open first. In that way, they’ll eventually be able to open all the doors, in whatever order they want. Do they want to explore the Archives first? Or the Garage? R&D?

Deciding on where to go on that will be up for the playerbase to figure out, and each decision will come with a poll in order to determine the choice. Once things get moving, we’ll get back to you every so often on whatever door has been chosen and reveal what can be found inside. Some doors may provide stuff that can be used up in Luceti, or reveal information on the history of the world, or provide other uses.

For finding the keycard, we’ll do a repeat of previously and just do a quick sign up for someone to find it. So as before, just sign up explaining why your character would be poking around down there and we’ll randomize it up and select someone in a few days. We only ask that if you were picked for releasing Twila and obtaining the key, that you not sign up for this opportunity.

So these physical manifestations of the darkness in your luceti-spirit soul.

Is there a way to back out of or reverse them, once the character figures out what's wrong (if they do)?

Like with any spirit, you can let the connection fade over time. The symptoms are really a result of using the magic.

One of the rooms that can be unlocked is a parking garage, does that mean Luceti might get access to vehicles soon?

I dunno, could it? That's a good question.

Is the depossession process the same as it was last time? I.E. the feathers molting off and characters feeling ill while that's going on? And is there a length of time that would take?

    [personal profile] charitylovehopefaith 2013-06-05 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Not a very important question, but: would having been possessed when a character previously had no filial magic make a change in contacting that particular spirit?

Like, if a character who'd never done filial magic before was possessed because of personality closeness by Sona, would that un-possessed person find it easier to contact Sona to start learning the magic? Or would the ease of contact remain unchanged?

Some of the initial difficulty in 'courting' a spirit is just attracting its attention (unless it's like Nala), so post-event, it would be pretty easy to already have that initial 'contact' out of the way. At that point, it's only just a matter of learning the magic.

Basically because he didn't go last time, basically, and other people he knows did. Once the relative threat is over, he'd go poking around down there (probably with one of his friends) to see if there's anything to be seen.

Clove poked around the tunnels when the wall was revealed, and since there's more to see, she'll be exploring further, mostly because she'll be trying to find information about the remarks on the wall regarding children and big wings and bad things. She also has the tendency to claim anything of apparent use as hers if she finds it, and the keycard would be something she'd seen as value for trade rather than use.

Doubling back over information for herself rather than going off of second and third hand information about the tunnels, digging around for answers or at the very lest more specific questions.

    Re: SIGN UP (KEYCARD)

    [personal profile] daisy023 2013-06-05 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
Daisy explored the place for a while, and once things wear off she could be trying to explore and see if anything else could be found, recorded, or studied. She has an affinity with technology, but knows several friends who have greater experience with it, so if she got the keycard she'd most likely want to get the garage opened, to let the minds of Luceti work with them.

... That, and after what happened with Pandora's box, she'd ask for a team to accompany her and make sure not to repeat it.

Jane is known for exploring ruins and being a treasure/bounty hunter back home (in fact, it's pretty much her job), so exploring the tunnels would be second nature to her. She hasn't done much poking around in there either, so she's bound to be curious about the tunnels in general.

Like with Jane, exploring ruins is basically a "been there, done that" for this kid. Rudy's poked around the tunnels before, and since the last area opened up both the wall and the door have been tugging at the back of his mind.

Freyjadour would be a bit curious about the tunnels once everything calms down a bit, considering the recent happenings. He's been about some areas of the tunnels before, as well.

Again, Vash is very gun-ho and wanting to explore any inch of any area that could give him even a false lead about children born in Luceti.

Awesome! Just making a little post here to say I've seen it. I have just posted with Vash as being ill, but he's a quick healer. Just to give me a little breathing room between posts I'll be making him post about this in Lucetilocked in a day or two!

Luke has a troublesome curious streak and the tunnels are creepy but not inherently dangerous to him. He wants to solve the mystery! It'd remind him of the event where they were exploring in Egypt except without all the scary things; it is sort of his deal to go poking into places that might not want to be poked, even if it frightens him. That's what a gentleman does!
    endgames: (I'm. Awesome.)

    [personal profile] endgames 2013-06-06 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
Shikamaru will probably regularly be exploring down there same as he did when the tunnels were first discovered. He has a heavy interest in them and would work with anyone who was also exploring too.
    lostinmyway: (Charge~)

    [personal profile] lostinmyway 2013-06-05 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
...So. Who wants their spirit to be exorcised via a picnic with Grune?
    folklorist: (Ever so curious)

    [personal profile] folklorist 2013-06-05 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
Helios does have Twila so that might be a nice way to go about it.
    lostinmyway: (Giggle!)

    [personal profile] lostinmyway 2013-06-05 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
And Grune would definitely invite Helios on a picnic, so that works!
folklorist: (Yes I do agree with that)

yay picnic :3! Best de-possession ever.

    So uh. Anyone want to help get Twila out of Saten? ... Don't try hugging her, that won't go well >.>;;

(First disclaimer: this would come with her re-aging from her Mallynap effect and I'd like to thread it out)

(Second disclaimer: I am not opposed to having her hold out until she's killed)

Kain is still possessed... and I'm thinking he may end up dying provided I think up a penalty to ask about. I don't think he'd very readily let someone help him otherwise. It might just be a fitting way to let him return to a better state of mind, odd as that sounds,
