How's My Driving?

This is a crit post for both the community and game and for your characters. If you have something you'd like to see us improve upon with the game, PLEASE TELL US HERE! Anon commenting is on, but if anything gets really nasty there will be warnings and thread-freezing. This isn't required but everyone is encouraged to take advantage of the advice of your fellow players!

Just some pointers: no taking cheap shots, no dragging personal issues into things and for the love of all that is wise and great, please double check your replies and comments before posting them. Sometimes a change in phrasing can make all the difference between a helpful tone and a condescending one.

ALSO ALSO: We'd like to clarify that HMD means HMD- which means it's okay to have both good and bad crit. Some people have expressed concerns about posting good/bad crit when a character already has bad/good crit posted. We'd like to encourage you guys to do it anyway! You can drive well or badly, and even good drivers make mistakes. So give it a try \o

I really think you guys could have done better with the timing of the event this month. Right before a player plot that had a very large number of sign ups really was not the best timing in the world and on top of that it was being run while the AC was running.

Emma gave plenty of notice about her plot and it was known over a month ago that she was going to be running a plot that took place ICly starting on the 18th and over 80 characters were signed up. That number of characters is as large as some of the drafts, so that's pretty major plot there.

It really would have been better if we had an event in May, or to hold off til the player plot was finished so we could have a break and a silly event would have been great after that. It's not like there wasn't over a week after that plot finished and before apps started. In fact June 23rd-June 30th would have been a great week for an event, gives a couple of days between Emma's plot and wraps up right as apps open.

Nothing we can do now, of course, but maybe something to keep in mind for the future?

Right up front, I would like to mention that I'm aware that I have not been the world's greatest at keeping threads going as long as is customary here. There's a whole host of reasons for that, most of which I imagine would be kind of boring to hear me tl;dr about, so I'll just say that I've got it in mind, have been working on it, and plan to continue working on it.

I really have no concrit for Kay at all. And I have heard rumors that a love meme is going to be going up next weekend. That means I can gush later.

So I just have to say FOR NOW: I find her completely charming to stalk and well written. It's kind of unbelievable really, how far you have taken a one-episode character, and how well you are making her work in the game. I am not sure there is a "customary" thread length in Luceti; a lot of it depends on IC motivations and situations. Some end up super long and others end up short and some in the middle. Sometimes things get handwaved. Hopefully that kind of thing will get more comfortable for you the longer you are in the game!!!!! <3

I really, really like your Hiccup. I think you capture his voice very nicely--all his slightly-modern vocal tics contrasted with the old-fashioned aspects of the environment in which he was raised. He's fun to tag with and fun to read threads of and just comes off as quite genuine, on the whole.

So, at this point I could really use some characterization feedback. More than once, in canon, Ginko remarks "I don't know that I would have done differently. I've never lived in a village before" or "If I stay her any longer, I'd get too involved."

But now he has stayed in a village, for nearly a year and a half. According to canon's own dictates, that has necessarily changed the way Ginko interacts with people and the way he makes decisions. If anyone could give me crit on those aspects, specifically, I'd REALLY appreciate it.

Hm, Vash and Ginko haven't in general threaded too much together. So he still has that aloof quality I felt he had in the manga/anime. Ginko cared, but he could be there one day and then vanish for a few years the next, but able to pick up where they left off from there when he did make his way back.

As for his closer relationships in Luceti. I can see him struggling with it now and then, which seems right. At the same time, slowly trying to settle into a more non-nomadic lifestyle. He's growing more comfortable around people, not that he's been anti-social, but I guess I should say more welcoming to people getting to know him. Making real friends instead of aquatints.

Yeah, so, I guess I couldn't have any good advice except to say I do believe you're "doing it right" as they say.

So besides the "I wanna see him more!!", I think your Al has been pretty great. You do well with making it obvious he's a little kid, despite being a huge hulking mass of armor. I can't imagine that being too easy, especially without the benefit of having a spoken voice in LJRP. So good on you.

Seriously, man, every time your comments hit my inbox, I squee a little. You've done an amazing job of building up a realistic way for Fenimore to interact with Grune, letting both of us keep our characters IC despite having pretty much zero canon interaction to base it on. The whole "Sigh, I'm babysitting a woman old enough to be my…wait, how old is she, anyway?" vibe is just perfect. You also do a great job of showing Fenimore's genuine affection for Grune, and not making looking after her seem like a huge chore all the time (though I'm quite sure it can be on occasion).

So yeah, nothing but love. Only negative crit is GET A NEW JOB. D<

I may not be the beeeest judge since it's been a long time since I've played P4, but Rise's seemed perfectly IC since I've last threaded with her? Admittedly, it was a little while ago, but yep. I remember that Rise's character in canon surprised me by being cooler and more laid back than I'd been expecting. When I read your threads here, I get the same impression of hey-she's-pretty-cool. Canon review never hurts though?

I love where you're going with Ayumu--which is completely biased, probably, but still. I'm really glad that you're willing to have her grow and that I get to be part of it, I adore the relationship that's developing between her and Homura, and she still scares Tatsu to death. All good things.

I--haven't seen Rokuta or Yue/Yukito out as much? Which is probably as much my fault given my time issues lately. But whenever they are, they're spot on perfect; especially Rokuta. And you know you got me interested in 12K and CCS anyway, so, yes.

GIL. I know you started off super nervous with him, but I think you've got his voice nailed. I'm looking forward to seeing him in something really dramatic, to see that side of him, but everything else is just amazing. And I really love the brotherly dynamic that we're developing now that I'm getting a bit more comfortable with Vincent's voice.

Anyway. I haven't watched much of Eleven's seasons! I watched about half of his first season, but there are a few little things under Moffat's direction that put me off. Nothing against the man -- I love his Sherlock series -- or against any of the actors. That's just how she goes. But, man, it was too bad, because I was fond of Eleven. Matt Smith did a great job.

So I'm pretty thrilled to watch you in action, because you have him down so accurately. The words, the gestures, the occasionally derailing trains of thought -- all of them scream Eleven. I could hear the Malnosso-threatening post loud and clear in my head. It's just brilliant, and it's like a second chance for me to enjoy him.

I'm afraid this leaves me without criticism, but on the upside I can tell you to keep noting his actions and doing those precise points of emphasis. They're definitely working.

Heya Trippie!

I know that you've been the victim of some nasty, nasty grudgewank in the past and maybe that's why I've seen the trend that I've noticed with Shiek. To be honest, I don't really remember a lot about his character as it's been ages since I've played that far into OoT so I apologize in advance if this crit goes against his character. I've noticed that for the past several months when Shiek is around, he really only tags the same group of people (Link, Hisoka, Hijiri, Duo and Tsuzuki) and his posts are also directed at the same group of people. Is that because he's been for so long? I just think that it'd be nice to see Shiek interacting with other characters a bit more.

I AM REALLY BEHIND ON TAGS LATELY, I KNOW. And I remember my crit from the last HMD to tag people more equally!! Which I was working really hard at... but lately things have been so ridiculous it's been hard to tag at all. FOR VARIOUS REASONS after next week it should finally get better again, I think! ... in case anyone cared I guess :|

Also, come to think of it, I'm canon reviewing for her. She's been in Luceti a long time now and sometimes I worry her voice is getting away from me, or she sounds too old or mature or something. Since her voice in canon can be really quite simplistic... any comments would be helpful.

I know next to nothing about Xion to be honest so I cannot crit on her character and I'll leave that to other people who know her better. However, I would like you to give you the same crit that I just gave Trippie. It'd be nice to see Xion interacting with some other characters and not just the same group of people that she's always interacting with. Otherwise, it's really nice to see Xion's inner thoughts when you do post or tag around with her. It really let's us see how the character really thinks and I like that very much. :)
